Looking to go on for a trip with our toddler at the end of December before he turns 2.
After a destination with:

  1. Good veg food
  2. Nice weather (I.e. not middle of rainy season)
  3. Destination more for relaxing, so after a place of natural beauty
  4. Happy to push the boat out for this trip

Any suggestions welcome!

Caribbean?

paap1975 · 21/08/2018 11:40

I agree with Bendy. Barbados, St Lucia?

Sarahlou63 · 21/08/2018 19:26

Caribbean - 3rd vote! We been to the Dominican Republic for the last 2 years (first 2 weeks of December, quieter and cheaper in the run up to Christmas) and off to Antigua for the same period this year :)

Check out ba.com holidays.

Will take a look at the Caribbean! How easy is it for vegetarian food?

Also have Thailand and NZ on the list

Kerala or Goa? Fantastic vegetarian food.

Thailand or Sri Lanka could both work also.

BELIZE the weather is beautiful then its an unusual destination but there are mayan ruins, howler monkey forest walks, snorkelling the reefs etc. no need for anti malarials etc. message me for me info

jjemimapuddleduck · 25/08/2018 12:21

South Africa! Cape Town is amazing.

juneau · 25/08/2018 17:43

I would say Thailand, but you need to look into vaccinations for any/all destinations you're considering and see whether they're recommended/okay for young DC to have (some have nasty side effects or are contraindicated).

19lottie82 · 26/08/2018 10:47

Vietnam and Cambodia!

PunkAssMoFo · 26/08/2018 19:21

Mauritius is very a very easy place to go with young children. Natural beauty and good for vegetarians. No vaccinations required.

Caribbean gets my vote. Not sure on the veggie menus but plenty of veg for sale

SJane45S · 29/08/2018 18:06

If you 're looking at the Caribbean I'd rule out Cuba - the food isn't great anyway but as a vegetarian it's terrible! Kerala has just had really bad floods. How about Costa Rica? I found it easy to eat there and ticks the natural beauty box. Thailand sounds good but flight time to NZ with a toddler would be hard going! Goa is great but rough and ready & I 'm not sure I'd take a toddler there. Barbados & Mauritius sound good options

Can anyone advise resorts for south sri Lanka and south vietnam. We're planning on going this Xmas but getting a bit overwhelmed with the choice. Last year we went to phuket and fancy somewhere similar but maybe a bit less touristy. Any recommendations appreciated.

SJane45S · 01/09/2018 10:10

No help on Vietnam & we've not been to Sri Lanka yet but we're partially staying in Tangalle on the South Coast next year as part of a Sri Lanka trip. Rough Guide have a good online guide to Sri Lanka so I chose it from there & we're staying in a 4star pretty middle of the road place with lots of grounds. Tangalle has numerous hotels & beaches but doesn't look like it's become completely over run with tourists (I hope!) just yet & there are national parks & temples nearby for days out. There are also turtle watching places (although from an animal welfare perspective - lots of folk crowded round one poor turtle at night we'll give them a miss).

MissMarple11 · 01/09/2018 13:31

I'll check out tangalle online I hadn't heard of it. We've kind if made up our mind on sri lanka too and maybe splitting the holiday between two resorts, one on the south and the other maybe near kandy. There's just so much information it gets a bit overwhelming. We're just waiting to see if the flights go down in price as we want to be there for Xmas and new year. Then hopefully pick hotels after that. Hope you have a fab time.

You too!

WalkingTed · 01/09/2018 20:33

is mexico any good at xmad time of year?

thenightsky · 01/09/2018 20:44

We went to Cuba in 2012 as a family of vegetarians and had no issues at all.

This December we are off to Dom Rep and have booked a resort with a veggie restaurant on site.

EdinaMonsoon · 02/09/2018 03:38

Goa is great for relaxation & vegetarian food. How about the Maldives too?

Stringofpearls · 02/09/2018 06:38

The Cayman Islands are worth a visit, great food, gorgeous beaches and you don't need any special injections.

Stringofpearls · 02/09/2018 06:45

Ooh just realised Sri Lanka is on your list, we went there a few years ago and stayed in a sort of nature resort by the sea, you had to get a little floating platfotm pullet thing across a small river (maybe 30 feet wide only) and it was incredible. Just looked it up on Google and it was called Ranweli Eco Resort, it was absolutely stunning, one of the best places we've ever been to.
