Post-cruise motion sickness

We’re just back from a wonderful 2 week cruise round the Mediterranean. We went off the ship most days and apart from the final overnight sail home, the weather was really calm.
I felt fine on the ship but since we arrived home yesterday I feel really sea sick. I keep wobbling and I feel a bit sick. Is this normal? How do I make it stop?

It wears off. Travel sickness always stays with me for a couple of days after I get off the ship/plane. I drink lots and nap if I can.

Don't worry, you'll get your land legs back in a day or two. I had this for about 24 hours after the long sail from the Med back to Southampton. It's a weird feeling.

Weirdly, my DH and I BOTH had this after a West Africa cruise. We felt like we were still at sea for several days. It wore off.

MeetOnTheLedge · 21/08/2018 00:11

Yes, it lasted best part of a week for me last time, but a little better each day. I felt wobbly/drunk rather than sick.

It’s called Mal de Debarquement Syndrome

Gwenhwyfar · 21/08/2018 00:16

This is completely normal. I even get it after a two-hour car journey sometimes.
I had it even when I worked on a ship. Felt like my bed was rocking after a windy day.

Land sickness. Try some benadryl at night, it helps the middle ear re adjust. It will wear of but is v annoying. Lying in a hammock ameliorates it.

Just to add we have done a number of cruises since including a six week one and never had a recurrence. So don’t be put off.

This always happens to me. Lasts a few days then disppears. Mal de Débarquement.

I always get this after a cruise, on the ship I hardly feel anything, but once in land, I feel light headed and ‘spinny’ for several days. It wears off eventually..

Just don’t make the mistake and made and get on a big rollercoaster the day after disembarking. I felt terrible !

Kewcumber · 24/08/2018 08:57

Me too. And we may have been on the same cruise! P&O Aurora?

Kewcumber · 24/08/2018 08:59

I didn't know there was actually a name for it - live and learn!

I get this after a long haul flight. I just take travel sickness pills for a couple of days once I'm on land.
