We're looking at some winter sun thats not further than 5 hrs at most in Jan 08 for a week. Everyone says they've had a fab time in Sharm and the girls will be 4.5yrs and 1.6yrs. My bil will grumble at us about their medical facilities (hes a dentist and feels he is the authority on anything medical !),if something happened??? Weve looked at Eilat , but the weather can be a bit off , also I will miss eating any seafood or just eat how I want as it will be Kosher!

Weve been looking at the Ritz Carlton in Sharm as weve found a deal thats good considering the grp, also looking at Hyatt Regency. There's pluses and minuses for both;

Hyatt Regency Naama Bay; Kids club is 5+ and dd will only just be over 4 , so we have to PAY a babysitter to chaperone her for a few hrs OR tell them shes older than she is . Shell be 4.5 yrs by then and seems to love kids clubs!. The hotel looks like it has some character and atmosphere and has some good facilities.

Ritz Carlton, Kids club is 4 up so no problems there. It looks quite personality less iykwim, a bit of a vast sprawling wide white modern block. Theres also not great reviews of its rooms and some people complaining on trip advisor about kids being noisy . Despite this it looks like it has some fab restaurants and Ive read the food is amazing.

I was hoping there would be a creche for dd2 somewhere for a couple of hrs to myself in the mornings , but apart from Le Meridian in Cyprus (totally wrong season) , then they are few and far between.

Sooo does anyone have any ideas or places. Whats Lanzarote like in Jan ???Is there some fab resort there to thats meant to be great with kids????

i adore sharm, have just come back from a week there with 5yr old. it is SO hot though that after a lazy morning - hanging around eating breakfast and then a bit of tv, we made it to the pool or beach by 11am, late lunch, then although she hasn't napped since she was 2, she slept about 4hrs every pm(!!) then we could go out in the evening, which is great fun and you see the best of egypt. went on camel ride opposite hilton waterfalls. the panorama cafe in naama bay is easily the most fun, there is dancing 11pm ish. everywhere the food is child friendly and very cheap (especially in old sharm) the toys are tacky and very popular with children and you can afford to buy something every day. the food in supermarkets is cheap and varied. we stayed in 'self catering' appt in DELTA SHARM this is big complex with 10 pools.... such good fun and easy to get to everywhere. you can rent through holidaylettings.co.uk I stayed at a hotel last year, the hilton waterfalls, couldn't believe how cheap it was for such luxury...

am tired now (still recovering) but if you think of anything else you want to know, write back and i'll add to this tomorrow.

thanx ammy1 sounds good , probably wouldnt do an apartment as like to be in hotels , I like just sauntering down to breakfast and not making it myself or having to do any tidying whatsover !! I will have a look at yours though as some of that aspect of hols is appealing, like being able to put them to bed and sit on the balcony amd read and have a bottle of wine, was that VVVV exp ?? I hear theres really high tax???).

Hope you have a good rest, thats the problem with holidays , coming back !!!!

How was the old town with your lo ,I was told to not go there with young children and a buggy ??????

Hi Melsy. We went to Hyatt Regency a few years ago when we had no children, but it is a lovely hotel. The pools are great for kids as there is a waterslide and caves and waterfalls to play in. Also a great restaurant area called "the souk" where you can get different types of food from different "stalls" which is really child friendly. They do have other restaurants as well.

We didn't like the town of Sharm at all, it was a bit like a very low class Blackpool when we visited in the day (no offence to anyone from Blackpool, which I am sure is lovely). It seemed a bit seedy, although am told it comes alive at night. We stayed in the hotel the whole time, so not sure if there is anything to do for kids in the area, but if you are looking to spend most of the in the hotel complex I would definitely recommend it.

hello again
am putting off deciding what to make for tea...yes i can see the appeal of a hotel. we didn't do any cooking whatsoever, ate at delta or out. for breakfast, bought things the night before, yog, bread etc. was very cheap, you can get deals about £300 a week for 2 beds. also balcony and lounge (incl gb tv incl for kids) so good if children go to sleep. i agree old sharm is tacky but that is part of its appeal to children, she loved it. it is dead as a dodo in the day. not sure about buggy, all pavements hard work in egypt. at delta there are lots of shops, coffee shops for breakfast, good restaurant by main pool, 2 themed evenings. the hyatt sounds good doesn't it? is there a beach there i wonder? lots of the hotels don't have much in the way of beaches. if you look at lastminute.com you can often get virtual tours of hotels.

Hello. Hyatt is right on beach, which is a LOVELY beach. Also good for diving / snorkelling etc if you or DP / DH get a chance.

Enid · 04/06/2007 19:22

[sigh]

dh and I met there 12 years ago

it was fabulously laid back then

it would be a sin not to dive or snorkel

if Tam Tams is still going it does amazing falafels [nostalgia]

Enid · 04/06/2007 19:23

old SHARM - tacky

god you lot honestly it is a real Sinai town not a bloody tourist trap - thats how they LIVE

grrrrrrr

(anyway the Star restaurant in old sharm does amazing seafood)

funnypeculiar · 04/06/2007 19:27

Went pre-dcs to dive - tbh, didn't think the town was beautiful (sorry enid!) but then we spent most of the time in the water - the most amazing coral & sealife I've seen anywhere (better than barrier reef, imho)
We ate in some fabulous restaurants, but defn all the best stuff is underwater!

Enid · 04/06/2007 19:31

no it ISNT beautiful

its a real working town

you really must dive

Nbg · 04/06/2007 19:33
