should I get DD (10) to learn to ski or snowboard?

I want to go skiing at Xmas with my DD, who's 10. She has never been so I need to decide whether to encourage her to ski or snowboard. I'm not spending 3 days on my arse again so I will ski.

My mum died this year so I don't want to be home at Xmas and have found a great little catered chalet in Morzine over the festivities. Haven't been for several years, been a single mum since she was little. I can ski, assuming it is like riding a bike and I won't forget in the 8 years or so since I've been....

What do you reckon, do I encourage skiing or snowboarding? What's quickest to learn? We can go to an indoor snow dome thing a couple of times between now and xmas but not loads, so she needs to get the basics down before Dec!!!

help!!!

Yes, we're doing a ski taster too next week. She needs to be able to get down a slope by Xmas, we are only there for 3 days, literally flying out xmas eve, ski xmas day, boxing day and 27th, then back on the eve flight. I don't think ski school will be running during those days...

I know I'm probably being a bit OTT obsessive about this; I just want us to have a nice diversion at Xmas, to deviate attention from her beloved nanny not being there. Sad

oh BTW I am aching like I've not ached for years.... from 45 mins of dragging a board up 10metres repeatedly with one foot. WTF. Please god the ski taster goes better!!!

Where are you skiing? Ski schools generally run as normal over the Christmas period. It’s peak season so everything is business as usual.

I remember the aching after my first time on a board! Skiing really is a lot less effort imo

We've been at Christmas and ski school ran every day, though we didn't send them on Christmas Day as we all skied together in fancy dress, assumed everyone would be doing it - apparently not Blush

It's probably a bit ambitious for her to have a 3 day taster to hitting the slopes without any additional lessons or taking it slow.

Ski school will run at Xmas but best to book early rather than when you arrive!

We don't have enough days for ski school so I've booked a 2 hour private lesson for Xmas Day! 160 Euros!!! Shock shock horror!

If she ends up going on a trip with School they tend to favour skiing.

You 've plenty of time to do a course of lessons at snowdome e.g. weekly or intensive in october half term. Then the 2 hour lesson when you go will be a review and showing you good runs to try. My dd had 12 hours total snow dome before going first ski hol with my sister so she was able to really enjoy as was already skiing
