Returning from Devon on Thursday and I’m
Thinking well stop half way and visit an attraction
Thought maybe longleat but it’s hard to tell using wayz or google maps if it is half way and not too much of a detour ?

Retouched in Wiltshire is nice. Also in Wiltshire is Bowood House ( has a good children's play park if needed)

Seeline · 12/08/2018 17:56

Longleat is quite big - easy to spend the whole day there. How long are you planning on stopping for. It would be quite expensive if you only stay for an hour or so.

TheChatsPyjamas · 12/08/2018 17:57

Lydiard Park is quite close to the motorway at Swindon.

Harken53rig · 12/08/2018 18:02

Wilton House just outside Salisbury has a great playground.

Which route are you taking home?

lisalisa · 12/08/2018 18:33

Thank you all so far . Haven’t decided route home and will prob ask WAyze before setting off to make sure dont encounter too much traffic .

Studley Grange butterfly farm and craft village is just off the M4 at the Swindon junction. It's A great place to break a journey.

inquiquotiokixul · 12/08/2018 18:41

Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire is lovely. Not just your standard national trust house as the whole village is national trust. If your kids are into Harry Potter they will be delighted with the number of locations they recognise. Good pubs to eat at too.

Great thank you so much for all your suggestions .

Wheredidallthewashingcomefrom - ha ha great user name ! Studley Grange it is !

Longleat is good. Marwell zoo too. A bit of a detour for both but not hideously out the way.

ThisLadysNotForGurning · 12/08/2018 22:47

Might be a slight detour but Bristol zoo is great.

HankyPanky04 · 12/08/2018 22:54

Bristol Zoo is crap. Much bigger Zoo in Paignton.

Try www.whatshalfway.com

Ariela · 12/08/2018 23:33

Bowood House.
Book tickets in advance, lots to do for a 7 year old.

inquiquotiokixul · 13/08/2018 00:08

If a zoo type thing is what you fancy then Wild Place just outside bristol has the advantage of being right by the m5 junction and so you won't have much detour. Not a full scale zoo but worth supporting as they are growing slowly with each animal type only being added when they can afford to adapt an appropriate area for them. Better than bristol zoo proper in Clifton where the lions and gorillas each have far too small an area but the prime real-estate location means no chance of expansion.

The Hawk Conservancy near Andover is very good. Has brilliant bird displays and is reasonable in price.

lisalisa · 13/08/2018 08:28

All sounds great ! Goodness but spoilt for choice here !!!
