We’ve just come back from CC. Stayed at beautiful Pine Shore cottages. It was lovely. Not luxurious but so relaxing. Areas in CC vary from the super-chic to the downright tacky. I recommend staying in Chatham, accommodation is expensive but well worth it for the location.

How busy does it get in the summer? Also how posh is it? We're not super chic or tacky.😂

Chatham’s just lovely, smart shops, galleries, good ( affordable) eating spots and super beaches. We compared it to Burnham Market in North Norfolk. Just a lovely, friendly little town. America is having a hard time at the moment, but towns like this really do show the best of the country. The Friday night band concert is not to be missed. It’s quite busy in the summer. The traffic getting on/ off the Cape is bad in the summer, but we caught the Cape Flyer train and picked up a car at Hyannis. But, while the Americans complain that its abhorrantly busy, these are people who have never been to Brighton or the South of France in August. Some beaches are deserted, others pleasantly busy with families ( everyone lives the lagoon at Cockle Cove). We never had a problem finding a restaurant table etc.

Can you tell I’m a fan ?🙂

I have heard Chatham is the place to be. Unfortunately I can't find any suitable accommodation for when I want to go.

Boogle where is tacky (Provincetown?). I was told it would be better to stay in the middle rather than at either end. Do you agree. Also is it better to be on the Bayside or Ocean side? Only going for 3 nights so want to get it right.

Yy to Belinda’s questions although we’re going for 10 days. I kind of wanted to stay on the beach but can see that would be ££££now.Blush

What companies are reputable re rentals? Can only see Ineedsvacation and Homeand away, not sure how reliable either are. Thanks for all your previous info it’s really helpful.

We booked through here as they specialise in Cape Cod / Islands. We stayed in Falmouth (every year for 10 years!) which is Upper Cape (opposite end to Provincetown.) The Cape is expensive - particularly in high season. We paid USD 1700 per week for a very small 2 bed cottage (although it was 5 mins walk from the beach and had water views...) and this was 5 years ago..
Weneedavacation and Homeandaway are direct from owner rentals - so you need to do a bit of homework. Check reviews, ask if you can check directly with someone, pick up the phone and speak to the owner. I have rented with both companies for over 15 years now with no issues - but maybe I'm just lucky!
Cape Cod can be very busy in the summer. Certainly we often had to wait to get a table in restaurants - many don't allow you to book - you need to turn up and they put your name on the list. It's a beautiful place though. Not posh at all.

Nowhere's that tacky I guess, but around Yarmouth there are lots of motels, putt-putt courses etc, so that coloured by view a bit. And Haddissaggis is right that nowhere is super posh (compared with Nantucket, which I think very much is). Provincetown is a lovely town, really chilled with lots to do, but you might prefer to visit, rather than to base your stay there, as it's a bit remote (and, putting it delicately, the nightlife might not, or might, be your thing, but look into that before committing....). We had a great day there, and as we felt the children wouldn't manage 4 hours on a whale watch did an Art's dune tour, which was great fun.

We stated at Pine Lodge Cottages/ Pilgrim View, which is on White Pond in Chatham. Found it on recommendation of a Boston-based client, who has been going for years. I don't think they really advertise or use agencies. Very reasonably priced, 'rustic' (i.e. dated) lodges, with access to the private lake and beach for swimming and rowing. It is about USD 900 for a 2-bed lodge in peak season. We paid more for a three bed house, but the lodges looked absolutely fine. Lots of families (including English ones) who had been going for years and years. It's run by a very nice family, who are really helpful. You have to email them directly to book, but they do have a website with information.
