Budapest and Prague

Wondering if any of you could advise me what currency to take for three days in each of the above? We are also visiting Germany and will be taking Euros, GB pounds and a credit card, but am wondering whether to get some Czeck and Hungarian currency as well, if only for coffees and drinks and snacks. Any advice welcome! Also any "mustn't miss" ideas. Thanks.

We loved Prague and Budapest and would definitely take some local currency (I would also say we had to order Czech money because everywhere we went had none in)
We particularly enjoyed the Kafka museum and the Absinthe museum in Prague and when we were in Budapest we did the tour around the Houses of Parliament which were great.
The other thing I wish we had done in Prague is the day trip to the castle made of bones just outside of Prague.
Other than that have a great time!

Thank you Sammi. I'll have a look at your suggestions, they sound interesting. We usually get our currency on line, so I will get onto ordering some.

Definitely get some local currency. Just pull it out of a cash machine when you get there. Everyone will be more than happy to take your euro's in Prague & Budapest but you'll get your change in local currency and it won't be the best exchange rate!

Guessing you mean the bone church - Sedlec Ossuary - at Kutna Hora?

It's thoroughly strange. But also really small. 5 minutes in there is plenty. And there's not much else to see in Kutna Hora, it's a really small town and not that close to Prague at all. If you want to do it, best option is to take a tour that takes you straight there. It's also possible on public transport, but fairly time consuming.

Budapest is awesome. Don't miss taking a thermal bath. I recommend the Szechenyi ones if you're a mixed sex group/couple. Or a ladies' day at the Kiraly baths is very relaxing (once you get used to the eggy smell). Also, don't be afraid of the public transport system. The metro & trams are really easy to use (just get 10 journey ticket stubs and don't forget to punch them) and a great way to get around (it's a very big, sprawling city centre and the taxis are a massive rip off).

Also, if you like a quirky club/bar for a beer/fun but realxed evening atmosphere, don't miss Cross Club in Prague (decorated with parts of old buses and sewing machines) or Szimpla in Budapest.

Visit the Alchemy Underground Museum in Prague - it's fabulous!
Coffee in the art deco municipal building by the city gates
Astronomical clock is great

Budapest, we visited the Gellert Baths which we loved. Coffee at the New York Cafe is very special as it Gerbauds for cake. Take a cruise down the Danube.

Both fantastic cities and we have visited them more than once
