I posted similar in chat as didn't think of here first.
we are heading to madrid soon on a last min trip for 4 days. We will have dd, almost 13 with us. The hotel is very central and has a roof top pool so she is happy with this.

Any tip tips of local delicacies or drinks and places we must see?
We've never been before! Excited now

In terms of local delicacies there are loads. I can't recommend a food tour with these guys highly enough:

We did the tapas tour on our first night - maybe not for a 13 yr old as there was a lot of wine and vermouth but we ate out at their recommendations for the rest of the holiday and enjoyed it a lot more than we probably would have done otherwise. By the last day we were cheerfully eating snails Grin

Definitely go to San Gines for churros, try to have a calamares bocadillo from a place that only sells them and nothing else (there's one on the top corner of Plaza Mayor), go to Abuela for the garlic prawns and La Mallorquina for amazing cake and pastries.

Tinto y Tapas, very close to Atocha station and the Prado art gallery (which I think has activities for children and definitely had free admission Tuesday to Sunday, 6pm to 8pm, or Sundays from 5pm to 8pm last time I visited). If you and DD are cheesy people, get the goat's cheese flatbread and the manchego wheel! Their charcuterie is also fab from what DP (not veggie) tells me!

Also take a look at the San Miguel market near Plaza Mayor, where you can browse different stalls and try oysters, croquetas, caviar (and a shot of vodka for you!), and loads of other Spanish delicacies.

So envious, Madrid is a beautiful city. You'll have an amazing time!

My teens love a good food tour even without the alcohol (we've always paid a bit less for them anyway) and also the churros at the aforementioned place.

Try a tour of the Bernabau, even if nit interested in football its very good.
Boating in the Retiro parque.
Cable car ride out to Casa de Campo.
Shipping
There is a Warner Brother Park on out skirts, will be quite quiet as most Madrilena leave Madrid in summer.
Get train to Torledo, fabulous medival hill for town.
Get train to Segovia, walt Disney based tge castle on it.
Juan Carlos Parque is nice for a walk but v hot, fabulous fountains to cool off in.
Second the galleries.
Artocha train station is interesting.
Mooch in the plazas and eat tapas. Our favourite restaurant with the kids is Lateral. Can find them in various places.
Shopping.
Lots to do, but it will be hot.
Enjoy

Are you staying at the Emporador?
There is an enormous Primark on the same road.
The food market is really nice and a good place for lunch. The metro system is really easy to navigate and use.
