Codders, the site was great. Two smalish pools with a toddler pool, but never more than 20 people in them at any one time. A great adventure playground with sand pits etc.

The owner is new this year and may not be letting in keycamp/canvas next year as he wants to take over the running himself. We want to check out how much he is going to change before we book for our tent next year.

It was excellent. Pitches were the biggest I have ever been on, 200m some of them, with lots of mature trees for shade. The place als has 3 lakes and is a haven for butterflies...it was magical.

hmb · 17/08/2004 19:56

Oh, and we hired bikes for a week of the holiday.

honeybunny · 17/08/2004 20:08

Was that here?

hmb · 17/08/2004 20:10

Was theat question to me HB?

We were in the Vendee in France. The campsite had a bike hire, everything from toddler bikes with stabelisers to adult bikes with 'pods' on the back.

honeybunny · 17/08/2004 20:10

I'll try that again!!

hedghog · 18/08/2004 00:13

Off to the Vendee on thursday. See you there Honeybunny! Not even going to try and attempt link - too late, too tired, too dumb! but we are going to St Jean de Monts - 5 nights at La Zagarella (2 bed Villagrand) and 6 nights at Les Genets (3 bed Villagrand). Will post brief trip report when we return. Wish I'd booked the ferry to include the kids bikes! Ah well, will have to hire when we arrive. Anyone know how the weather is in the Vendee right now?

hmb · 18/08/2004 07:30

Yes, that was the site Honnybunny, and it was jsut as advertised! Excellent.

hi notthecod!
i just thought that as we leave TOMORROW changing the ferry crossing arrangements at this late stage would be impossible - esp if the crossing is fully booked. Might give Keycamp a ring in a minute and see what they say .

honeybunny · 19/08/2004 14:03

hmb-we looked at that one but couldnt get in for our fortnight, it was fully booked back in May. It sounded perfect!

We got back early hours of Saturday morning We went to the Loire Region - staying at L'Etang de La Breche in Saumur. The site was fabulous (small - 201 pitches), huge pitches themselves and the owners were great

Enjoyed it so much, we booked to go again next year. The site was far superior to the site we stayed at in Brittany (Benodet). Area was very pretty and loads to do.

Unfortunately, DD1 suffered a head injury, needing hospital treatment but Brigitte (the site owner) came flying along, taking me, DD1 and DH to hospital. She came in the room with us, filled in all the forms, did all the interpretations etc. Drove us home again (midnight). Hospital was fantastic, very quick and spotless.

Personally, I would only stay on a "small campsite" in future, much nicer than the "mediums" that we've used.

Kids had the freedom they could only dream of here.

This year, we took kids bikes and a Gazebo.

This morning, DD1 received a " gift" (friendship bracelets making sets) from Keycamp as a way of "compensation" for her injuries. Also have to say, the Keycamp Reps were the BEST this year, far better than the others in the past.

We stayed at La Grande Metarie last year and it ws absolutely fantastic. We need a larger ste as we have a teenage girl and I am looking for recomendations for the Vendee for next year. Is it jsut a beach/pool holiday or are there nice places to visit as well. We wnt to The Loire as well this year and it is the most gorgeous part of France. We had a good campsite, which was too small for 15 yr dd, but the boys 7 and 11 loved it. Just worried that the Vendee won't live up to it

Tortington · 14/09/2004 22:52

we stayed at les mouettes carentec. highly recommended - we went last year and it was the best hol i ever had - went again this year it pissed it don proper all the time we were there - it did spoil the holiday but we did try.

hedghog · 15/09/2004 11:44

Can recommend La Zagarella (small, shady site with nice play area) and Les Genets (both nr St Jean de Monts, Northern Vendee) booked through Keycamp. We were very lucky with our pitches and the Villagrands (2 bed at first site and 3 bed at second) were pretty smart. Plenty to do in the area although, like you Custy, we had rubbish weather. Didn't even get to try the slides - too flippin windy and cold - but the kids (mostly) didn't care. Rather disappointingly we never managed to hook up with the Kids Club! Neither the club, nor the Keycamp Kids' 'couriers' were very visible/obvious? I think I was expecting our children (aged 6 and 9) to be enticed away by all the activities but we never actually saw any.
One thing I would add to the 'what to take' list for anyone yet to travel is an oven glove!

ladywallopofcod · 15/09/2004 11:49

I can recommne out place for teenageers lillibet - they had a disco and your dd could go to the pool alone
we have booked for next year already it was great

would add a wine cooler sleeve
a larger oveb sheet for the cooker

ladywallopofcod · 15/09/2004 11:50

oh our weatehr in july early august was very hot
the drive was 6hours

lilibet · 15/09/2004 12:22

When are you going Coddy, I think that we have decided on that site.

What was there to do around and about the place? Cognac looks quite close, not that I would ever let a drop pass my lips

ladywallopofcod · 15/09/2004 12:28
