Amsterdam next spring

Decided to visit Amsterdam next April - on account of it apparently being the best time to see it with all the tulips in bloom - and have found pretty cheap flights for a return at £65 but found that even though I'm looking pretty far ahead, the hotels (4*) all seem to be surprisingly expensive at £250 per person per night upward. Is it just me or is that high?
Would it be better to put off the booking till later this year or early next year?

@gazebo maybe you don't, but I definitley know me and my husband need a great luxury break, although we won't be in the hotel much 😉

Just to sleep in a luxury hotel, away from our children for 4 night, sounds fantastic.

Look at Botel (boat)

Look at I am Amsterdam website, I've just been, free travel on trams, free entry to museums, one free boat trip. Train from airport to Amsterdam is paid separately. Ferries at rear of central train station are free. Hotels and food are expensive. Recommend the village with the windmills outside Amsterdam Zaans Sch

Tomatoes.

How is some of that free???? I live in Amsterdam and I have to pay for the tram, can't think of a free museum (but there might be one or two) and I'm wondering which boat trip is free. Maybe you mean that you had a voucher of some kind? Although you really need to pay for the tram...

I've stayed at the Park Hotel with work, which is near the main Rijksmuseum but was a bit pricey. Lovely places and close to major attractions though.

If you're still stuck then take a gander at Utrecht, which is a city close by (about 25 mins from the airport on train). It's beautiful, much nicer than Amsterdam IMO and less oriented towards the obvious tourists. It's a short hop on the train to Amsterdam.

I did hear that city taxes and the general costs for hotels were going up slowly in a bid to rid the city of the stag parties and smoking tourists although that's only hearsay.

We stayed in a lovely old apartment on the Herengracht Canal. Nice supermarket near by and Bagels&Beans for breakfast.

I've stayed at Hotel Estherea. It's lovely, quite flouncy but so comfy, on Singel canal, close to the centre. Quite pricy but I loved it. I'm going back in December.

Try the meininger hotels. We are paying 130 euro for two nights in September. I remember struggling to find anywhere affordable until I found this one.
