Trunki

Hello.

I am traveling abroad in August with Ryan Air.

Their new policy states unless you have paid for priority hand luggage, your 10kg hand luggage case will be taken from you at the gate, and put into the hold.

My daughter is 2, so has her own seat and 10kg hand luggage allowance. I am hoping to take her Trunki filled with bits to keep her entertained on the plane. Has anyone had experience with this new policy recently? Will her Trunki be taken away at the gate unless I pay for priority hand luggage?

Thank you.

If the Trunki is her hand luggage then that is fine- otherwise you need to pay for it.

FWIW-they're very cumbersome and will have to go in the overhead locker on Ryanair's very narrow planes. She might be better with a backpack.

The trunki is much bigger than the free second 30/20/20cm bag. According to new rules it will be tagged at gate and placed in hold for free. A small kids rucksack will meet the small bag criteria. Or pay priority to take the trunki on board.

Thing is, you never know. We had a case and the correctly sized hand luggage, all fine on outbound. But on return hand luggage was tagged and put in hold (free) and you can't really argue the toss! I'd go for the backpack idea.
