Driving from Essex to Switzerland

We are going to Interlaken, Switzerland from Essex for Christmas. Are we crazy to consider driving there with our 4 and 6 year old children?

Flights and car hire are looking to be at least £300 more expensive than petrol/ channel tunnel/ insurance/ breakdown cover, etc.

Any thoughts? Will it be a nightmare?

oh I'm watching this with interest!! We want to drive to Interlaken with our dog. I've been told by a German colleague (who lives near the swiss border) that the best time to go for us would be September. It's like classic spring weather with all of the midges gone.

I bet its stunning at Christmas but driving possibly in snow would make me very nervous, however I don't think you're mad at all, I think its a wonderful adventure and you'd all love it!!!
