Sorrento with a 3 year old and almost 2 year old?

Is Sorrento suitable for a 3.5 year old and almost 2 year old? Planning a 2 weeks family holiday.
Many thanks

Depends. I love it but there are no beaches in Sorrento. Most hotels have pools and bathing platforms by the sea. Italy is generally very family friendly but the Amalfi coast area is expensive and has a more grown up vibe I think.

We like to visit Capri, Amalfi, Positano for long lunches and a look round the shops.

The hotels are fantastic and the food is amazing.

I love Sorrento but as above there aren’t really any beaches. It was a few years ago that I was there but I remember a lot of steps and steep hills to get anywhere, may have been just our hotel though! Pompeii and Vesuvius are popular excursions which again aren’t buggy friendly or ideal for little legs. I’d love to go back but we’re waiting until DD is older. I also don’t think I’d stay there for 2 weeks unless you’re planning on travelling around a bit; we did Naples, Sorrento and Postiano in 10 days along with day tripping to Capri, Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius. It’s beautiful, the food is amazing and everyone is very friendly though! So really it depends what you want out of the holiday but personally I’d probably wait until your youngest is capeable of a bit more walking.

I don't think so.
The area is beautiful as is the food but toddlers don't appreciate scenery and sightseeing in my experience. There are many better choices for a two week family holiday

I was there last year with my teen daughter and we had a hotel with a sea pontoon and pool, it has no beaches, Positano would be better or Capri I think would be better.

Love Sorrento but we went when our kids were older.
Our first trips abroad was to Portinatx Ibiza. It was a Thomson hotel though, but a lovely beach.

MyFriendFlicker · 24/07/2018 18:48

Agree it's great for teenagers.

glamorousgrandmother · 24/07/2018 18:54

I loved it but I don't think it's suitable for small children.

Threehoursfromhome · 24/07/2018 18:55

How are they with steps? It's very pretty, but there are a lot of steps, and I don't remember there being much which was particularly child orientated. It was more an' admire the view while sipping a cocktail' kind of place. Or a base for walking/ excursions

I'm sure the Italians would make the children very welcome, but I think there are easier places to go with a young family.

Not really family friendly. There was a family with young children at the hotel we stayed in but the pool was really not shallow or for splashing around, the hotel was on multi levels and the dining room not set up for kids. The attractions of the area are also not likely to engage them for long. The beach, such as it is, was chargeable and small.

buckingfrolicks · 24/07/2018 18:59

Sante Marie Della Castellebate is ideal for kids that age. About an hour or two down the coast.

Booie09 · 24/07/2018 19:01

Try a place called Maiori which is on the Amalfi coast lively beach.

Ischia is lovely. We went there when DS was 2.5

KLG3101 · 28/07/2018 21:01

Thank you all so much. After your such helpful comments we’ve rebooked the villa we previously stayed at in Marbella and will do Italy once I’m stroller free!! Or maybe manage a kid free trip if I’m lucky!

I wouldn't. I went to sorrento a month before falling pregnant with my daughter and I was so glad I did as it just isn't family friendly.

Also the traffic is horrendous and the pavements very narrow. Your chilfren would need to understand about road safety.

Good decision not to go.
