I am booking a holiday for early next year with my (relatively new)partner.
He wants to take me away somewhere 'different', he has travelled a lot with work and wants to go somewhere new.
we are thinking about Cuba or Barbados but I've heard mixed reviews about Cube and not sure if Barbados will just be a big resort and not much else?
Always fancied Goa because of the wildlife and rivers and cheap when you get there.... you can live like king and queen apparently??

Any experiences, or recommendations. I want it to be a really romantic memorable holiday

We went to Barbados this year. I liked it but I wouldn't say it is the most special place I have been to.

We also went to St. Lucia 3 years earlier and this are the pro/cons each:

Barbados was nicer to go out on your own, easy to go by "bus" or hire a car. Easy to eat out, lot of trips available and no hassling from the locals. But it is a very farmed island, no forests or jungles left. It shows the history of overuse for plantation sugar cane farming.

St Lucia - stunning island, lots of scenery but you can only go out with a tour, we did a private one and found it hard to go around without people asking us to buy something or begged. I felt a bit closed up in our resort, no real opportunity to go and have dinner somewhere else.

How about Thailand? We did a great holiday there years ago, saving currently to do it again in 2-3 years when DD is 14-ish. We did a week's private tour from Bangkok north to Chiang Mai, flew back and another week on Koa Samui, great country, lovely food, lots of scenery and history. Friends did one with a 3 day trip to Singapore beforehand, also a great experience.

I second Thailand...gorgeous country with such a diverse culture, wildlife and scenery ( we're off to Koh Phangan and Koh Samui again in 5 weeks) ...research what time of year is best to visit which bit though as the monsoon rains have to be factored in , although it's tropical all year
Or how about the Seychelles, much more exotic than many of the Caribbean islands - beautiful lush islands with incredible wildlife. We stayed on Mahe and Praslin and hired a car, which was great as the speed limit was only 40km/hr!...loads of places to explore and felt very safe
The food is gorgeous with a creole influence and fabulous seafood
Also been to Antigua, which has many beautiful beaches and places to explore , but not as lush as St Kitts and wildlife is not as exciting, although snorkelling was super
Sri Lanka ,Madagascar , and Costa Rica are on my list of places to visit
