European resort accessible by public transport

Can anyone recommend a family friendly holiday resort in Europe that's accessible by public transport? Don't fancy the faff of car hire or taking car seats.
Open to suggestions about the resort itself, but ideally near cultural attractions or a town or beach, as we don't really fancy a week on a sunbed!

You just book transfers for most places and it's usually by coach or they can supply car seats.

However maybe somewhere like Nice where there is a beach in the city but it has an airport?

Pisa airport has a train into the main station with connections onto places from there but there isn't much to see in Pisa

Sorrento or the Amalfi coast totally doable by public transport.

the coast south of barcelone.
roda bera, tarragona.

lots of eurocamp resorts near public transport (train) and beaches and cultural interests.

Amsterdam or Lisbon

Lake Garda - fly to Verona, train drops you in centre of town, bus to anywhere on the east/South.
Fly to Pisa and train to Florence. Fly to Venice, boat into the city.
Montpellier - Airport or train, ditto much of southern France
Istanbul, resorts on Bavaria lakes are accessible by train/bus from Munich...

Zell am See, we met a family there who had travelled from Munich airport via train, got by without car all week.

I agree with Nice, the airport is really close to the city, the beach is in the city, there is a train station in the city for day trips to Monte Carlo, Cannes etc

Cap d'Agde in SW France? Fly to Beziers, then bus.

Malaga

North of Barcelona too. Calella, Pineda etc.

Also done public transport in italy so do Venice and Lido?

Otherwise whilst I've not seen much of Holland and Belgium id consider them for that kind of holiday.

Another vote for Malaga - we have also been to Benalmedena a few times using the bus/train. My parents in law swear by Palma (they always use buses) and we've stayed in Duinrell in the Netherlands using public transport from Schipol and went on several day trips using the train/bus.

We have also used private transfers from airports to resorts and all have had backless boosters. How old are the kids?

we liked Barcelona and the coasts round there
also have done the garda thing mentioned above.

Spain is pretty good for public transport. There's a trainline from Malaga airport that goes down through some of the main coastal resorts like Fuengirola.

Also bus stops outside Tenerife south and Lanzarote airport terminals that go to the main resorts.

Loads to do on Lanzarote and both islands have lots of excursion companies you can use.

Valetta is a short bus ride from Malta airport too and buses are good and cheap, if a little slow for the distance covered.

If you google country and bus, you should find the bus company website with timetables, maps etc.

MorrisZapp · 19/07/2018 11:15

Majorca. There's no part of the island that costs more than 70 euro in a private taxi from the airport. Never used transfer bus but assume its pretty cheap.

MorrisZapp · 19/07/2018 11:15

Also second Sitges, Vilanova etc via train from Barcelona.

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/07/2018 11:23

Palma Mallorca would be a good choice. There's lots of cultural stuff in the city, and a beach close by, it's close to the airport for cheap bus or taxi transfer and you can get the mountain train to Soller, plus things like the aquarium etc.

FadedRed · 19/07/2018 11:29

Switzerland. The public transport is second to none. You can get travel pass options from the Swiss Tourist Office in London before you travel that will save money and children are mostly free on public transport. Zurich, Geneva and Basel airports all have railway stations in the airport complex.

Todayissunny · 19/07/2018 11:37

Geneva. Stay in pods at TCS campsite right on the lake (swimming). It's a short bus ride from centre of Geneva.
