Legoland (and Denmark)

We'd like to go to Legoland (and the Lego House) in Denmark but don't want to have to hire a car there as that's so stressful when you need car seats and don't want to lug them on the plane/can't trust the hire company to provide them. Is this doable by public transport after flying from Scotland? Will I faint when I see the price of everything there? If we wanted to stay more than a few days where else in Denmark would be good to go with a 4yo and 7yo?

We've considered Legoland Windsor but a) I don't think it's much closer to us miles-wise and b) I've heard nothing but bad things about it!

(Also considering Disneyland but that'd need a separate thread I think).

We drove there from mainland Europe so I can't really advise wrt your original question. But I wanted to warn you: it really is a bit shit! Yeah, the lego statues werr cool to look at but iir you entrance fee is similar to Alto towers - type parks but nowhere near the size of it or with a similar amount of rides. We were done with it within maybe three hours. I felt quite ripped off tbh.

We are going next month with a 4 year old and a 7 year old! Flying Manchester to Billund via Heathrow with BA. We have 3 nights at Lalandia (like centre parcs), then we travel to Ribe for 2 nights, then back to the LEGOLAND holiday village for the last 2 nights. Apparently you can get a reduced price 2 day ticket when staying at the LEGOLAND village, which I emailed about as it doesn't seem well publicised.
We are hiring a car, as I don't think there is enough to do in Billund for more than 4 days. We are taking car seats. Never done it before, but surely you just check them one end, plonk in hire car at other?

If you just went for 4 days, you could do Billund without a car easily.

I am expecting things to be expensive. So I am packing a suitcase of food. With 4 x 23 kg baggage allowance, we can take all the cereal, etc we need.

Read the Global Mouse Travels blog for Billund. The museum at Jelling (free entry) sounds good.

The local buses in Billund are good, frequent and most don't charge for children.
We stayed in Lalandia and got wristband entry for the week to the water park+Legoland+safari park (Givskud zoo) for about £80 each for the week. DCs are teens so counted as adults.
If you don't want to pay theme park prices for lunch, there are supermarkets in Billund. The only thing that was noticeably expensive was booze.

We visited Legoland Billund earlier this year and had a great time with our kids (7&3). We flew into Copenhagen and took a train to Vejle followed by bus to Billund (~2.5hrs combined). We stayed in the Legoland resort and got a deal, through the Legoland website, where we got accommodation, breakfast, a 2 day pass and a ?750DK voucher for food which was enough for lunch for 4 plus donuts/ice cream. Can't remember exactly what it cost but it was a very good deal. Legoland itself was lovely and just right for kids of our age. No big queues, nice and compact, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. If you can fly into Billund at a reasonable price I'd do that as airport literally next door to Legoland. Lalandia that others mention looked great and would be another option for accommodation as again it's just across the road. Didn't go into Billund itself but I think you could walk/bus in and visit legohouse. I'd say you could definitely make a weeks holiday out of surrounding area. Arhus is not too far away and supposed to be Denmark's second city with lots of cultural attractions - art, architecture, food etc. We're planning on going back to that area again sometime soon. Have a fab time!

In the period from July 1 - August 31, 2018 the shuttle bus number 384 offers free transport between Billund Airport, the hotels and attractions. Outside this time, I wouldn't know how to get there without driving, and also I don't know if there's a direct flight from Scotland to Billund. Legoland is a three hour drive from Copenhagen.
It would be much cheaper and more straightforward for you to go Efteling in Holland instead. There are direct flights by Ryanair from Edinburgh to Eindhoven and from there it's only a 20 minute transfer to Efteling. You could combine it with a stay at the excellent Beekse Bergen safari resort.
