Is Thailand the best option?

Next year, my DH turns 50 and I turn 40, so we want to go on a bit of a special holiday with our DD, who will be 5 at the time. I am a teacher so it has to be in July or August. I looked into some holidays in Lanzarote, Tenerife etc. but I was pretty disappointed with the standard of accommodation (DD sleeping on fold out bed in pretty cramped room) for our budget.

Then we thought about Ibiza, hiring an air b&b, but it would mean hiring a car and I'm the only driver, and don't fancy it much! Third option was Paris (again air b&b) with a couple of days at Disneyland. We then worked out for the same amount of money, we could go to Thailand. DH and I have been before and we adored it (Chiang Mai/Bangkok/Koh Phangan), and have always said we wanted to take our DD one day.

I've looked into it, and it looks as though Koh Samui will be the best choice in terms of weather. I know it's quite busy/touristy, but we would like to be somewhere in easy reach of attractions and restaurants, and stay somewhere a bit more special than some of the resorts I previously looked at in Tenerife/Lanzarote etc.

So my questions are - would you go for Thailand of those options, and if so, is Koh Samui the right choice? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated! Smile

I would go to Vietnam - Hoi An/Hue area is dry in July and August and have also been to Hanoi then and only had one day of rain. Excellent food, lots to see and cheaper than Thailand. Also if you are UK citizens, stays for up to 15 days don't require a visa (new rule until 2020).

Thanks Shanghai, I was looking at Vietnam earlier actually! Will go and have a look at Hoi An now.
