We are looking at next years holiday, I quite fancy Egypt.

I'm a bit nervous with stabbing etc 2017 and the travel advice on gov.co.uk.

Can anyone recommend hotels or any advice?

Ive Just booked The Steigenberger Aqua Magic for next year Smile. I’m a travel agent and this is a hotel that gets consistently great feedback from families that I book there so I thought I’d give it a try. If you aren’t bothered about a waterpark then I’d recommend the Sentido Mamlouk.
WRT to travel advice, yes there was a stabbing but there have been similar incidents in many other resorts - Salou, Ayia Napa etc. Some people are avoiding North Africa, only you can decide if that’s a worry. It isn’t for me Smile

We usually head to turkey so not too sure why I'm worried.

Thanks for responding, I'll have look at your hotel 🙂

There are lots of really good family hotels in Egypt, the quality for the price is similar to Turkey and if you’re ok with Turkey culturally you’ll be absolutely fine with Egypt 🇪🇬

we've been to Egypt, stayed at the Jaz makadi bay, were actually there when the stabbing happened and we didn't know until that evening.
We really enjoyed it, Makadi bay is a small resort made up of mainly hotels and felt very safe. tbh we didn't leave the hotel much accept for a couple of organised trips.

We're planning another trip soon as a good value holiday :)

We ended up booking somewhere else, Egypt's definitely on the cards. I think I will try when baby is a bit older.

I'd only choose Egypt if you have the hardest of hearts and don't mind seeing horses and donkeys in the worst possible working conditions .

I went years ago and I found it unbearable (and I'm not squeamish ) Sad

In any event I would avoid the Steigenberger Aqua Magic until they have got to the bottom of what happened to the poor couple who died - apparently guests were reporting high levels of illness there also.

Hoozz · 24/08/2018 15:06

Just reading an interview with a guest who said We've all had upset stomachs but that's part of the package when you go abroad.
It really isn't.
Yet illness seems like a badge of honour for those who visit certain countries.

We were told that everyone gets Montzumers Revenge (sp) and if you had it there (Egypt) it was better than having it when you got home.

We did a Nile Cruise/Luxor/Cairo trip.

By Day 3 people were dropping like flies and missing at dinner. I had to miss one of the trips.
By Cairo , I could sh*t through the eye of a needle Hmm

The only people who didn't get ill (not on the trip, possibly when they got home) were two delightful retired sisters who stayed up till 3am drinking gin Grin

And we were told not to take the malaria tablets we had brought (obviously only bottled water but it's very sulphur-ey)

I think even with the most scrupulous hygiene its just something that happens .

We have booked another destination, to be fair, so many people seem to be very unwell here aswell.

My thoughts go out to the couple in Egypt.
