Can't even begin to decide where to go!

Is it unusual to be completely overwhelmed and unable to decide where to go on holiday? I can't even decide whether to go abroad or stay in the UK. The only thing we have decided is to go May 2019. Can anyone provide any recommendations? Our DS will be nearly 2 by then. Since I had him I seem unable to cope with the heat so not somewhere too hot. How do people book multiple holidays a year? They must spend all their time planning them!

Not really. Planning is the fun bit.

Budget?

We’ve had a quiet Holliday year did Barbados in January, a weekend in London, got a trip to the lakes and to the states in the next couple of weeks.

Then probably going to either Thailand or Portugal at Christmas. Tend to go away properly in the winter as work in seasonally busy businesses.

It depends how much you like travel and planning I suppose. I like both, so it's easy.

This summer's holiday didn't happen as DH injured his knee. So I have planned (but can't book yet):

  1. St Cyr-sur-Mere for May half term as it has a sandy beach for swimming and a water park for 5yo DS.
  2. 10 days in a caravan near a beach we like in Pembrokeshire.
  3. A weekend in Bristol.
  4. Skiing in Spain in January.
  5. Baden-Baden just DH and me if we can persuade MIL to take DS.

For a 2 yo, I'd find a place that you like, with a sandy beach they can play on if you want a beach holiday.

Shave it down. What do you like? What are the deal breakers / must haves?

Not too hot
All inclusive?
Kids club?
Near the beach?
Budget?

I'd stick to France / Italy / Spain if you don't want boiling hot but in May it'll still be "not needing anything more than a vest top" heat I'd say

Are you teachers so need to go in half term, or is it anytime in May?

I'd do a cruise. That way you can see lots of places and get ideas for where you would like to go back to
Yes they can be a bit trashy but have everything you need with a 2 year old including kids clubs and babysitting, whilst providing suitable adult time. You can both sunbathe at the same time for one.

FreeMantle · 14/07/2018 09:58

Sorry, re read and see you aren't so keen on sun.
But Europe is a great temperature then. Do a fly cruise so you spend 7 days ( or whatever) in a different city from the word go.

It depends on budget really.

Sweden is great for kids, lots of museums and parks.
Portugal is lovely, particularly Lisbon and quite cheap.
Not too hot will be either Scandinavia or northern Europe, I can recommend Innsbruck, Vienna and Geneva.
In the UK, we love Scotland, Northumbria and the Peak District.

After you've set a budget, think about how long you're prepared to fly for and whether you want a resort or city break.

If you want activities consider a boating holiday on the French canals. Really easy to nevigate, your 2yo can have a snooze in the afternoon while you make your way to evening destination. French welcome young children in restaurants but you also have the option of cooking for yourselves too.

I'm in the same boat, can't decide UK or abroad, totally overwhelmed, got two dc at different ages who like different things, a husband totally unwilling to do any research but just wants to go 'anywhere cheap and hot with a pool' doesn't know his arse from his elbow and thought Majorca was in Greece.

I want something a bit nicer dh doesn't care.

Feel like not bothering.
