Looking for a good break to have with DH and DD (aged 1)

At the end of the year, it's my DH's 40th, and I want to take him and DD (who will be 13 months) away for a long weekend somewhere. We live in Bristol, and do not want to travel more than a couple of hours.
Where can we go that DD will be able to enjoy? We like meals out, walking, shopping, looking at historical buildings etc. We are thinking of Centre Parcs in Longleat. Has anyone been, and would you recommend? Are there any other child friendly and reasonably priced holidays you could recommend? We want to go in January 2008. Grateful for any advice or tips. TIA

A Jan break in the UK, hmmm Centre Parcs might be your answer as at least you'll escape soem of that UK Jan type weather and you can enjoy the pool with her and take her on a horse and carriage ride with you etc etc.

I'm just about to go on my first Centre parcs break to Elevden Centre Parcs. Longleat is supposed to be very nice but very hilly which is why I choise Elveden which is very flat so easier for me to get girls round it.

If you like meals out, walking, shopping and looking at historical buildings, then I can't really see why Centeparcs would appeal. I'd probably go for a cottage in the Cotswolds or possibly a hotel somewhere along the A4 (Marlborough say).

Bristol is ideal for short travel to Wales, you could get a lovely cottage somewhere like Brecon with lots of gorgeous villages around like Hay-on-Wye which has the most beautiful shops.
