Hi all

Going to Tenerife with my best friend for a week at the start of August, both of us in our early 20s. This will be her first time abroad and I haven't been away on holiday to anywhere sunny for the past 5 years.

Does anyone have any good sun cream recommendations and things of that nature? trying to get all the little bits and bobs organised just now.

Also may be stupid question but can I pack false nail glue in my suitcase? I can't see it on any banned lists with Thomas Cook but nothing that says its fine to take either.

I don't actually have any children but I think mums always know best, only reason I've asked on here, hope that's okay! Blush

Nail glue suit case is fine or under 100ml in hand luggage

Sun cream look for the ones with a 5 star uvb rating and take a couple of different factors. Maybe start on factor 30 with a 5 start uvb then go to a factor 15. Supermarket own brands came out best in a resent test. Lots of the bigger brands had low uvb ratings.

Yes, just get supermarket own brand suncream. I'm very pale and burn easily and have always used Aldi, Asda or Morrisons own brand suncream in the Canaries and it's always protected me. Just make sure you put plenty on and reapply frequently. It's cheap enough that you can do this.

Make sure you understand your luggage allowance - Thomas Cook only allow 6 kg hand luggage for example, so best just taking a hand bag on the plane and putting everything else in your hold luggage.

Have a lovely time.

You can get spray on sun cream which is so much easier to apply. Cheap is fine as long as it's 5* UVB. Home Bargains do a good spray one. Take a mix of F15, F30 and F50 between you.
Tenerife has a lovely climate, in August it will be hot and sunny but often with a nice breeze. Not humid and sticky like here in the UK.

Make sure you have travel insurance and EHICs, no one goes on holiday expecting to need it but medical treatment in Tenerife is expensive. Take photographs of your passports and upload your travel documents to cloud.

I beg to differ on the spray on suncream unless I'm doing it wrong. Half of it misses your body and you can't touch the cream and then grip the bottle to spray again so it runs all over the place.

We have half a bottle that I keep trying but it needs to go in the bin really. Might be easier for applying on DC but not on yourself.

Ha ha Barbara I find it useful for doing your own back, albeit some contortion is required to ensure it lands on your back and not the floor. Also aerosol is better than pump bottle.

Hi all!

thanks for all the info, I have our travel insurance and weight limits for bags and suitcases all sorted so I don't need to worry about that too much for now.

My sister works at Home Bargains so I might drag her with me and take advantage of her staff discount for some sun creams and bits and bobs. Grin I'm Scottish so I'm as pale as paper at the moment Barbara so I definitely feel your pain there hahaa.
