Summer holdays - how much have you paid?

We haven't 'done' the summer holiday stretch this year - couldn't afford it... but we are now thinking of next year.
Please help, and give me some price comparisons - how much did you pay/ what did you get/would you recommend?

Hired cottage in Padstow = £1200 for 2wks in July/August - cottage would sleep up to 4. But you could definitely get cheaper - we paid for booking very late in the season and for being in Padstow - mind you, St Ives would have been even more. If you are keen to go in July/August, my advice is to book ASAP to ensure you have pick of where to stay. I have to admit, I would not do a beach holiday in the UK outside of these months as weather is too unpredictable (even July/August is risky!)
