WWYD Costa Teguise or Playa Blanca Lanzarote??

I have booked us a holiday to Costa Teguise in February, a big draw was the waterpark there. I have since discovered it is not likely to be open in Feb, but have found another waterpark in Playa Blanca which is open year-round. Do I try to switch resorts to PB to be close to an open waterpark, doing so will definitely incur charges, or shall I book a hire car to go to the waterpark and other places and stick with CT? I think it's only about 40mins between the resorts? Kids will be almost 2 and 3.5yrs and both very active on the go boys so a waterpark seemed a good idea?

Tbh, the water in the water park is cold at that time of year so I wouldn't base a holiday around it. There is loads of parking around there so to visit wouldn't be difficult, you could probably get a bus.
Having said that, I love PB so would go there!

Ah thanks so much for your reply! Have you been Costa Teguise? I like the look of Playa Blanca aswell but it was coming up £££ so I took a chance but now wondering whether to switch! What is it about PB that is better in your opinion?

I agree most pools in Lanzarote are not heated, so in Feb they will be very cold. Having been to both CT and PB we much prefer livelier PDC, Rancho Texas have a small water park attached to their zoo in PDC, they have lots of entertainment going on during the day for children.
Their pool is not heated either, it was freezing when we visited when our DS’ were younger.

Have you thought about hiring a villa with a private heated pool? That is what we tend to do now, more private and we go out to eat at a time that suits us.

Autoreisen are good for hire cars in our experience, but it is pick up and drop off at the airport only, which is what we do, other companies can drop the car to you in resort. Roads in Lanzarote are very quiet, avoid Goldcar at all costs based on their reviews, read some and you will see what I mean!

That's the hotel I've booked, it states pools are heated so hopefully so! I would be happy to hire a car and explore the island. I dare say we would visit Aqualava in Playa Blanca and visit PB marina and beaches, as well as going to Rancho Texas.

I'm just worried that Costa Teguise is not going to offer as much knowing that the waterpark is closed, and I have heard the beach is windy?!

I hope I don't sound super fussy or anything, I am just a bit anxious I suppose, probably unnecessarily, about keeping the DC entertained.

Lanzarote is windy in general, but the breeze is nice as it is cooling, it can be hot, we have been in Feb half term quite a few times and always had good weather.

CT is nice, smaller than PDC, very family friendly. As are all the resorts are in Lanzarote. Good choice of bars and restaurants, not far from the airport, 25mins or so. PB is probably 35 min, PDC 15. We stayed at Los Zocos, CT. all inc once that was very good, central, lots of entertainment for children.

Nothing is too far in Lanzarote, if you have a car, it makes life easier, renting a car is very cheap, as are the taxis. The buses are good and air conditioned and regular too. The marina at Puerto Calero is lovely too, in between PDC and PB, the submarine goes from there. I would definitely recommend Rancho Texas, very clean and lots going on, ideal for little ones, they run a bus from CT too.

The volcanoes are interesting, the landscape is moon like, but may be boring for little ones, the camel trip is good fun. Lots of markets etc.

The reason we prefer PDC there are thousands of bars and restaurants to choose from, we book a villa in the new town, as it’s flat, old town is very hilly! Lidl a few minutes drive, land at the airport pick up car in the villa with the kettle on in 15mins! PDC is very reasonable for food and drink, PB is the most expensive we find. Near the Biosphere shopping centre for Maccy D’s teenage boys what can I say! and a huge Zara.

Wherever you choose I am sure you will have a lovely time, if you stay in PDC there is a lovely square with bars and restaurants where they have a craft market one evening a week, if you ask at your hotel they will direct you, it’s near the spar, but I can’t remember the name of the road.

Have a lovely holiday.

Ah thanks so
Much @Yogagirl123 that's all so helpful! I think in terms of budget I may stick with Costa Teguise as I think the admin charges are a lot and it's supposed to be a fairly budget holiday. I'm definitely going to hire a car though so that we can go and explore. Fingers crossed for good weather Smile

Costa Teguise is the windier part of the island, we went Easter once and it could be quite chilly, also the beaches are stoney I seem to recall. If you are planning on going in Feb I would probably opt for Playa Blanca.

ppandj · 07/07/2018 10:54

Oh really @crimsonlake I'll maybe give Jet2 a ring and investigate the change!

There are at least four sandy beaches in Costa Teguise including one which has been made into a lagoon by volcanic rocks. It's quieter than Playa Blanca but really quite charming and one of the tapas restaurants is really good, complete with an owner who serenades diners with his guitar.

Just rang Jet2 and the woman was so lovely and helpful, she waived the amendment fees so we're now off to Playa Blanca!
Thanks for your help everyone Smile

Very good, hope you are happy with your choice, you can always visit CT whilst there.

BarbaraofSevillle · 07/07/2018 19:53

Glad you've been able to change. I didn't think CT was that nice to be honest. PB is much nicer.

somewhereovertherain · 07/07/2018 21:33

February can be cold in Lanzarote. We went to a water park in playa Blanca but didn’t stay all day as it was too cold. Did find the weather disappointing when we went so did Barbados this year instead.

user1494670108 · 07/07/2018 22:46

Glad you've moved it, for me Playa Blanca is the best resort although I've only visited CT, I found PDC a bit too British-touristy whereas PB is a bit smaller, plenty to see and do but quiet by midnight
