Compensation from Ryanair

Anyone have any experience claiming compensation from Ryanair?

I was supposed to fly home from Toulouse on Sunday but flight was cancelled due to strike, abd the earliest flight we were able to rebook was Tuesday. Over 48 hours later.

Which magazine has a guide which suggests we would be entitled to €250 Euros per passenger and provides a letter template, this is without providing detailed receipts. But Ryanair has its own form where you can upload your receipts. Limiting you to 2 or 3 star hotels, and all kinds of other stuff. We stayed in an Airbnb, not sure if that fits their definition.

Anyone successfully battled them for these things?

Yes I got compensation from them for a cancelled flight. This was last September when they had those mass cancellations and flight was cancelled with less than 5 days notice. I was offered refund or another flight almost immediately - I took the refund and then also sent in the complaint form on their website to claim compensation. I didn't get any news for ages and had more or less given up, when a somebody started a thread about RA and it prompted me to pursue my claim again. I eventually got 250€ in February, so if you meet the conditions it is worth persevering.

Fab - I was going to send a letter instead of using the form on their site, especially as I am claiming for two bookings (me and then I booked a ticket for an assistant under a different ref).

The only trouble is ours was cancelled due to ATC strikes, which apparently is not deemed as their fault, but I'd read they knock on delays can't have this excuse applied, so since we were supposed to fly Sunday, we should have flown first thing Monday....

It's €500, which would definitely help recoup the additional spend.

We were 3 passengers on the booking and got €250 each.

You won’t the EU261 compensation (which is what I think) you’re talking about, for a strike. It’s outside of the airline’s control.

Bensonhead · 06/07/2018 13:37

ah, that's irritating but I did wonder - since we were stranded for another 48 hours after the strike ended. Do you think i could doggedly pursue them on that technicality - since the strike ended Midnight Sunday and we were still delayed more than 4 hours after that?

You could try but their defence will be that it was caused by the strike causing a backlog. It’s definit worth a try though.

Bensonhead · 06/07/2018 16:14

From what I’ve read they are not allowed to claim that. Only when the strike is actually taking place.

I'm still pursuing a claim against Ryanair for the reimbursement of the cost of an alternative flight that I booked when they cancelled our return flight to UK in January.
The saga started, as per previous poster, with the pilot rostering issues in September 2017.
Dogged is certainly what you will need to be OP - they don't give in easily and try their hardest to make it difficult for you.
You can try a letter - I did, waited an age for a response which advised me to fill in their on-line form.
I suspect you will need to fill in the form twice as your description implies that you have 2 different booking numbers and their form won't accept that IIRC.
My claim has now gone to the aviation dispute resolution service and I am awaiting their verdict.
It really depends on how many hours of your life you want to spend pursuing this.
Good luck.

Thanks Wingedharpy - they really are a bunch of C aren't they? have to remind myself that even Easyjet are much, much better.

I'll send my letter and see. I'm currently pregnant with my first so i guess how far i can be bothered to pursue will depend on how long it takes! :)

You will be extremely lucky to get anything out of them.

I was also caught up in the French air traffic controllers strike in Oct last year and despite being promised a refund AND compensation by the staff at Malaga airport, when it came down to claiming they wouldn't hand out a penny. As 2Brie says, if it's a strike, they won't pay.
Our delay was while the strike was taking place, but still no good.
We were offered a flight in two WEEKS time or to find our own way home (and get the compensation) so you can guess which we chose - so very frustrating then not to have them cover our costs...
