You must go to Santorini!

Gosh, I’ve never ever been anywhere so amazing and relaxing!

Stayed in Oia for 5 days but feel much happier than when I’ve been to Spain, France, US etc for 2+ weeks.

Yes this place is ridiculously expensive, but 5 days here vs 2 weeks elsewhere. No competition.

Sat in a cave house, with a private jacuzzi. Sip through a bottle of wine throughout the day. Cook dinner and sit on the terrace and watch the sun fade.

Spend a night watching the sun set.

Wander into the quaint Cycladic streets to look at the things for sale.

Treat yourself to a nice dinner out, walk slowly back to the cool of the cave house and sleep.

Breakfast on the terrace. Repeat.

Take a sailing trip. Possibly hike down to Amoudi Bay, swim in the diamond clear, turquoise waters. Jump off the rocks for a bit of fun.

I can’t wait to go back, it’s heaven. A very international set here in Oia, but refined.

If you ever have chance for a few days away without children. Go to Oia!

I want to go there. Have been once for a day. It is stunning

Swerve Santorini - you can do much better elsewhere. I’m a fan of Sifnos.

Piss on ops chips!

I think it sounds lovely. Enjoy your break!

It sounds lovely, why are posters being mean? This is a Travel post.

BiggerBoat1 · 09/07/2018 07:11

Why is it being mean to say it isn't my favourite Island?

I preferred Skopelos and Paros. Santorini was too much of a rich person's playground for me.

HRTpatch · 09/07/2018 07:12

I love Paros. Just a bugger to get there

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/07/2018 07:13

Sounds perfect. I’m off to google.

Very interesting place if you are interested in ancient history as it is supposed to be the basis for the Atlantis myth. The ruins of ancient town destroyed by the volcano are very interesting, but as Greece has so many ancient sites not well presented.

We went a few years ago and it was great - but so hot and this was in May

Ive been to Santorini but wasnt staying in a luxury cave (hotel somewhere remote). Twas OK. Good Greek salad. I didnt like the beach. Its not somewhere im bothered about returning. Im not really a fan of Greece. More a Portugal italy Croatia person with a ton of other places to visit over Greece.

People rave about the sunset in Santorini. Having seen it i am ambivalent about why that is any different to watching sunset any other coastal destination.

Another vote for Paros. We did it as part of a mini island hopping trip. We flew in to Santorini and stayed in Pyrgos, which was much less touristy than Oia, but had a real rustic charm. From there we went to Paros, which we loved. I think the fact that you can't fully direct (so there are no big package trips) makes it more appealing straight away. Naousa was a lovely town to stay in. The restaurants were amazing! Then we flew out of Mykonos. I wasn't that keen on Mykonos - just too touristy.
If I was doing it again, I'd fly in/out of Santorini and spend most of my time on Paros.

I’d love to go there, sounds like a wonderful break

I’ve not been to a Greek island I don’t like and I’ve been to a lot

The best? The best is pretty much all of them, as long as you have transport to get to the out of the way beaches. Some of the chichi hard to get to islands are great, but also are some parts of the big touristy islands. We stayed with the DC in Corfu one year and found the most wonderful spots in the northeast (Kalami, Agni, Ag Stefanos. NE).
