Ste-Maxime (South of France) - anyone been? Any tips for must-dos, places to go, restaurants, etc?

We're off to Ste-Maxime (Var, South of France) in a couple of weeks. We've not been to this part of France before and would love to know what things people would recommend.

Which beaches are good?

What towns/areas are good for day trips (things a 3.6 yr old might like, e.g. boat rides, but not necessarily completely child-centric as in "Disneyish")?

Any restaurant tips nearby? It'll be a big anniversary for us while we're out there, so a quality restaurant (child-friendly though) for lunch or an early dinner would be nice. Any other "every day" restaurant tips?

And finally, is there anything else you think I should know about Ste-Maxime or the area?

Thanks in advance!

St - Maxime is very near to St Tropez which has a lovely big market in the square every saturday and also Wed, I think - but you need to check when it all starts for the summer. Lots of lovely restaurants in St tropez but can be quite pricey. Most all the places are kid-friendly and you will seee kids up with their parents at 10.30 pm and later!
All the beaches are pretty much the same, but beware that the smarter ones iwth loungers and umbrellas are paying beaches, however they have restaurants for easy lunches etc. The public beaches are normally just free access.
there are boat trips, but I can't be very helpful there. Definitely nothing disney-ish at all.
the coastal roads are lovely to drive along and lots of wineries to visit - it is, after all, the home of the Rose wine!!
Sorry I can't be more help, but there is a big tourist office at the port in St Tropez and they are very helpful.

Thanks Coolmama.

Does anyone else have any tips? Would still love to hear from anyone else who has been to the area.
