Going to Lanzarote in a week - toddlers broken his arm!

Hey all, my 2 and a half year old managed to fall off a chair on the weekend and break his lower left arm in 2 places 😟 he had to have it moved back into the right place under general anaesthetic yesterday and it’s now in a plaster cast and sling. He’s doing REALLY well and is not letting it bother him at all, even jumping on the trampoline still which makes me constantly on edge!

But we have a weeks holiday coming up on the 5th of July (Just over a week), and initially I wanted to cancel it because I couldn’t see how he could enjoy himself. But I found out it was £450 to cancel even with insurance, plus seeing how well he’s managing has me thinking he’s going to be fine 😊 I’ve ordered a waterproof cast cover so he can still enjoy the water/pool: www.<a class="break-all" href="https://amazon.co.uk/dp/B007UONM5E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_jlOmBb8M1S1P7?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-holidays-3289744-Going-to-Lanzarote-in-a-week-toddlers-broken-his-arm" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">amazon.co.uk/dp/B007UONM5E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_jlOmBb8M1S1P7

So I’m just wondering if anyone has experience of taking their young toddler away while they’re in a cast? The airline and doctors are happy for him to go without any doctors notes or anything which is good! Have anyone also used any waterproof cast covers before and are they good?

Thanks everyone :)

Here in Australia, everyone swims with waterproof casts. It is not so much a cover but the cast itself made of had plastic.
My son is in squads competitive swimming and some of his teammates swim with the cast on.
Just take your medical card with you, in case you need to redo the cast there for whatever reason.

how come the cancellation is so expensive given that you have insurance?? That is WHY you buy insurance, the cost should not be more than the excess.

let the insurers know whatever as this may affect the policy. hope it all works out.

Just a thought if you decide to go - I have quite a lot of medical conditions and therefore special bloody expensive travel insurance.
I am not an expert but you may have to formally tell insurance (unless you have already) otherwise the coverage might be limited.

Thanks everyone - no idea why the cancellation is so expensive, I went with one of the cheapest insurance deals when I used GoCompare...bad decision!

I've spoken to the insurance an they've charged me an extra £40 to cover the arm. To be fair I expected a bit more so I'm happy with that!

We went to the fracture clinic yesterday and the doctor there said as it's a 4 hour flight he may need to have it split so we're going back on Tuesday to check (not sure what'll dictate if he does need it split or not). The airline doesn't require it be split at all so bit confusing!
