Just that for a various reasons I’ve got a spare day in SanFran with my Two DDs. What would you do. We will have been in the City for a few days but won’t have had chance to do the “sights”

Won’t have a car. What would you do

How old are your dds? We've just been, Alcatraz was amazing listening to the audio tour if they are a bit older (walking distance from downtown to ferry), easy bus to golden gate park for playground, carousel, Japanese tea garden if they are younger. Biking the bridge to Sausalito is amazing too if they can ride bikes.

Alcatraz if you can get it booked in advance or alternatively a boat trip round the bay from Fishermans Wharf followed by lunch. If you want to go on the tram from the centre to Fishermans Wharf get there early as the queue builds up but it was the experience my teens remember from SF

Agree Alcatraz. On return loiter to laugh at the antics of the sealions.
If you haven't had a chance of a great view from on high of the city then Coit Tower would be good, and it's not far from the Alcatraz departure point.

Defiantly Alcatraz and pier 39 is pretty cool too! Right next to where you get the boat to Alcatraz

Shufflebumnessie · 15/06/2018 14:04

Alcatraz! Followed by Fisherman's Wharf for lunch, a wonder round and to see the sealions. If you have time, a tram ride is fun.

RusholmeRuffian · 15/06/2018 19:50

Alcatraz definitely

Cheeseislife · 15/06/2018 19:54

Literally everything everyone has said here! Pier 39, Alcatraz, ride a tram (Lombard Street is pretty cool, steepest road in the world), it's very easy to get around without a car

LuMarie · 15/06/2018 19:57

Lombard Street

Golden Gate Bridge, stunning. If you can walk or cycle across it's incredible.

Yes also take a tram somewhere, iconic!

Downtown is full of character at every turn, wander a bit in the very centre, it's very safe.

I wouldn't do Alcatraz, it takes up the whole day and is not really SF, it's touristing. Depends what is your thing though, or theirs, if interested it is a choice!

Spottytop1 · 15/06/2018 20:01

Alcatraz is great, as is fisherman's wharf.

The Golden Gate Bridge and a journey across it to Sausalito is lovely, we used The hop on/hop off bus and it gives you a lovely tour and you can also get off at the art gallery, china town etc....

daisiesinherfootsteps · 15/06/2018 20:04

To disagree with the consensus here I was totally underwhelmed by Alcatraz. Interesting of course but overrun with tourists and bird shit 🤢 have never smelt the like.

With the ages of your DDs then IMO the only thing to do is to hire bikes, ride over the bridge to Sausalito for lunch then come back over on the ferry. One of my all time favourite day trip memories.

dingit · 15/06/2018 20:16

Don't forget a play on the piano stairs (pier 39)

somewhereovertherain · 15/06/2018 21:17

Awesome. We are spending three days at AT&T park. Love the sound of the bikes.

There's a Hop-on/Hop-Off bus link we found really good. We got off and walked over the bridge, took some photos in GG park and at Lombard Street. There's also a river boat cruise around Alcatraz and under GG Bridge which included whale watching. I think it leaves from Pier 39. All doable in a day.
