11.5mth old on 10/11hr flight.....what to pack him?

I'm going to pack milk and some snacks (breadsticks, rice cakes)

Also thought i'd pack some small noise-free toys and books to show him through the flight.

Any other ideas? We're flying with Virgin, so we'll have our own screen, although he won't watch anything for long, i'm sure.

Re- nappies etc. I thought i'd pack what he'd usually use in that number of hours, plus 2 emergency ones, and a change of clothes.

Any experience here guys? Starting to fret a bit!

All sounds good to me!

I'd pack white chocolate and some crisps too if it were me (good when ds has a tantrum and I need to bribe him!)

Definitely favourite toys. Also things that he can't usually have but may think of as a 'treat' iyswim! So if you need to keep him quiet/still then you have something new to try!
Things I've done in desperation with ds... keys, empty purse, make-up (that I know he definitely can't open!), credit cards, old mobile phone that no longer works (so he thinks it's like mummy's!)...

Good luck!

white chocolate! genius!

yes don't forget the 'white' bit!

made that mistake myself last year and had full chocolate hand print on my light blue t-shirt for the whole journey!

actually, depending on the predictability of your ds, and the likelihood of the in-flight meal being knocked off the table due to only having 2cm of space and a baby on your knee... perhaps pack a spare top for yourself too!

PregnantGrrrl · 22/05/2007 12:19

i didn't think of that. good lord you are wise!

anything else?

errrrrm.... I think that's about as far as my inspiration stretches at the moment! But if anything else comes to mind I'll let you know!

ooh just thought of one more - I always worried about ds not drinking enough water on the flight. So packed one of those sports-type water bottles, if you know what I mean... where the top just pops up. I'd only put a bit of water in it at a time, but the novelty of drinking out of those bottles not only kept him quiet for ages, but got him to drink water too!! (Good bib required!!)

good one- will try that too.

right then- this is the list i've come up with:

6 nappies
wipes
Few snacks
Bottles milk
2 books and couple small toys
Clean vest and Tshirt
PJ's (will be bedtime for part of flight)
Bib
Sachet of calpol
Carrier bag for wet/dirty clothes

you can buy disposable bottles from Boots and superdrug which I found really useful when I travelled long haul to the Far East last year with my 11 month daughter. You can just throw it away afterwards, rather than hauling smelling used bottles around.

Lenght of ribbon and tie a few toys on to that . Loop round your wrist so when playing if they get thrown off you can haul them up with out having to resort to trying to hold baby and pick up from the floor. For take off and landing and any turbulence buggy books tied onto the seatbelt....and I had noisy ones which don't actually disturb as they are not that loud . i tied them on to my handbag/ handluggage before/after flight so take up less space. Also at hand for customs queues / luggage waiting.
Also useful if you wear a couple of child friendly bangles and a chunky necklace that he can play with !
Spare dummy if used ...and
Happy flying!
