Crete Chania? October half term

Hello, looking at booking 5 days in Crete for me and six year old DTs during Oct half term. We would probably hire a car but stay in/around Chania as know it would be end of season. I'd prefer a hotel/resort/hotel apartments as I always get a bit nervous in anything more 'isolated' on my own.

Don't want to spend too much but would ideally have a heated pool that we would stand a chance of being able to use.

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for specific hotels/resorts?

And also nice day trips for kids that age?

Thanks!

Well I've booked a holiday with my sister at a hotel in kissamos near chania, I hope it will be nice as it was my idea... never been to Crete before, my sister's been to quieter Greek islands & ive been to Mykonos twice.

Hoping for hot sun, nice beaches, bars & restaurants, good Greek food & a bit of history/ culture.

We're staying b&b.

We did a week in Chania at October half term about 6 years ago and it was so cold. It was too cold to swim in the sea, far too cold for the pool. We had to drive basically to the other side of the island to find some sun and even then it was really windy. One day we ended up in hillside restaurant eating goat casserole next to an open fire for warmth - my 18 month old loved it! We had a wonderful time but it really wasn’t the winter sun holiday we envisaged.

I'd head for Kalives or somewhere on the Akrotiri peninsula - both close to Chania. The sea will still be warm, and you have beach choices either side of the bay, so can easily drive round to a number of spots; some are quite sheltered. If you have cloudy/rainy days you can go to Chania or Rethymnon, or you've got loads of good walking possibilities including around the Apokoronas villages, and the Imbros Gorge. I haven't come across a heated pool on Crete.
