Can't find out much info.

Also is their chaos in Greenwich at the moment because of the Cutty Sark fire?

Alas I don't know what it is like now. However, I used to go there for swimming lessons as a child, it was basic pools back then (late 70's/early 80's) - two large plus a smaller training pool I recall. A couple of years before I moved away from London, one of the larger pools was made into a leisure pool with slide - this must have been mid to late 80's. Expect things have changed over the last 20 years or so, so alas not a great deal of help... but bumps the thread none the less

Looks like the swimming pool in Trafalgar Road is called Arches Leisure Centre. I have located a pool timetable.

They appear to be part of the Kids Swim Free scheme this coming half term (29 May-5 June 2007) - press release

Its quite nice fimbo - has a leisure pool and I think a kids pool (its sometime since I've been). Think greenwich is ok post cutty sark -are you driving or going by public transport?

FWIW if you don't mind going a little further out -the pool at woolwich is bigger and more kid friendly with better parking and cafe

spooky -nanny nick you must have learned to swim there at about the same time as me!!

Fimbo, the Arches is fine, if a bit tatty round the edges these days and access to it is not affected by the awful fire at the Cutty Sark
I would say though that parking round the pool area is rubbish, with crazed wardens much in evidence.
If you are driving, I second poppy and say, get over to the Waterfront at Woolwich. It is very busy, but the provision there for family swimming is better and it has a purpose-built leisure pool rather than the rather clunky efforts at the Arches to make a leisure pool out of an ancient Large Pool.
Parking is charged for at Woolwich but usually easy to find a space.
I learned to swim in the old Woolwich baths, replaced by the Waterfront, nannynick
And am counting the days to the opening of the brand new pools in Eltham in the Autumn
Greenwich Council does have very good swimming pool provision IMO

I remember the Woolwich pool - back in the late 80's it had a sort of rapids section I recall.

I did intensive swimming lessons at Eltham during one summer holiday I recall. Got my Bronze survival badge there!

Me too nannynick It's due to come down later this year once the new centre in Eltham High St opens. Mixed feelings - it's a dreadful dump now but its heritage as the training pool for cross-channel swimming squads since the 1920s is a sad one to lose forever
