Abu Dhabi

Has anyone been to Abu Dhabi recently?

I'm looking at July (I know but I love the heat) and was looking for hotel recommendations.

Also, is it better to go B/B and eat out around the area or HB or even All inclusive? I like the idea of endless cold drinks being "free" but not necessarily wanting to be tied to a hotel.

Thanks in advance

Anyone?

BettyPitts · 30/05/2018 18:08

Posted too soon, anyone been? I'm looking at this too but for October.

Do you know how hot it will be in July?

GloriaHotcakes · 30/05/2018 18:14

I think it will be about 45. We have been to Egypt in August and it was v v hot but we didn't do much as we needed a sun lounger and a book type holiday.

Will it be unbearable? (Sorry to sound a bit thick I've never been to the Middle East) Thanks.

I love the heat. I hated Abu Dhabi in July. It was awful. Like take your breath away heat and humidity - not in a good way!! Sand too hot to walk on. Sea was a hot bath. No fun at all.
Really wouldn't recommend it.

We went for a weekend to Abu Dhabi not long ago, didn’t think there was much there tbh Confused. We only really liked the Louvre and even at that, some of the walkways between building are outside so I’m not sure how I’d cope in July heat there.

Probably better coupled with a trip to Dubai but it’ll be very very hot

Thank you, I think you've just confirmed what I was thinking.

I've been left some money by a relative on the understanding that we have a holiday and I don't know where to start really.

It's for four of us, youngest is 18. I was hoping for luxury and a bit different. We've done all the main holiday destinations when the DCs were younger.

Oman and Jordan will be the same I expect, which is why they are coming up as good prices too.

Abu Dhabi is great for a hotel based holiday imo. We went last October and stayed part of the time at the Qasr al Sarab which is in the desert and absolutely amazing. Fantastic rooms and the food was unreal. You are about 2 hours from Abu Dhabi so there really is nothing more to do but they have activities like desert safaris, sandboarding and camel trekking if you want to do more than lie by the pool (we were more than happy to lie by the pool!) It’s properly luxurious with them coming round every hour at the pool with cool towels, iced drinks, offers to clean your sunglasses etc! We then stayed in the Park Hyatt in Abu Dhabi which was also lovely and luxurious but it felt more American in style and was on the beach so completely different feel about it (and cooler than the desert).

We also spent a day at the water park which was pretty good, very clean with plenty of space, sun beds etc and we went to the shopping mall a couple of times at night which was good enough. I read up about Abu Dhabi before we went and I was quite keen to go into the city itself and spend some time there but we didn’t really have time, it looked like you could spend a day on the beach there and go to some of the local restaurants.

We’re not in a hurry to go back though, it was a super luxurious holiday but there wasn’t anything unique about it for us to go back too soon when there are so many other places to discover in the world. I absolutely love the heat but I do wonder about what it would be like in July, it felt a bit stifling on some October days so it might be unbearable at the height of summer.

That sounds lovely, I really fancy a bit of luxury. The heat will probably be too much though as the pp have said.

@GloriaHotcakes I live in the Middle East and tbh, the majority of people here from Europe tend to leave for the whole of July and August as the heat is so unbearable.

Yes, it’s one of the reasons why hotels are so cheap at this time of year as it’s more the off season.

Somewhereoverthesanddune · 31/05/2018 06:38

I live in AD. Don't go in July! 45 will probably be a cool day. It's a fair bit hotter than Egypt! That extra 10 degrees makes a big difference and even lying by the pool with a book will be hard work. You will not be able to walk on sand barefoot for example.

If you're going to go to the region I'd go for Dubai at that time of year as there's more indoors to do. However, if all you want is a sunlounger and a book then look at where in the world the weather's nice in July and go there.
