Commuting from Rochester area to London

Hello all,

my partner and I are currently searching for the Home in the Rochester area - Rochester, Strood, Wainscott, Cliffe Woods for good and long term to start a family, but, as a working woman, I must admit, I am a little worried of how my commute will look like, as I work in London, hence the question - how do people living in Rochester / Cliffe Woods travel into London best and what are the approximate train / transport charges?

I did look up this on the SE rail, and it suggests c. 5k per annum travelling from Rochester into Cannon Street / Blackfriars.

I drive a car, but I am no sure if driving to some nearby station and parking in the car park would save money at all....?

What google and City Mapper suggests, that is clear, but maybe there are people who have managed to find the silver-lining for best and fast commuting into London while living not that close to London...

Thanking you in advance for any good info.

Where do you work in London? From north Kent there is either the high speed train line to Stratford and St Pancras or the slower (and cheaper) trains via Dartford to Cannon St or Charing Cross. There are also trains to Victoria, I think they go from Rochester.

Thank you, I'd go into Cannon Street or Blackfriars usually. I saw the train from Rochester that apparently goes directly into the Cannon Street, but I am not sure if that's considered the fast train... Thank you, I keep exploring around, as I really like the area, looks great for a family.

The Cannon Street train would be the slower train. There is a new timetable which includes some Thameslink trains to St Pancras via Blackfriars. They are quite slow. It is only the fast st Pancras via Stratford trains you have to pay more for

Thanks so much @Gwiffif!

I finally learned too that what is considered "fast train" is train that goes via St Pancras, Ebbsfleet, Stratford.

So Rochester into Cannon street is just a direct train. I think.

But thank you for this, it does help! :)
