Help needed - resort ideas

I desperately need some advice on suitable resorts in Europe.

Its a long story but until recently we didn't think a holiday this year would be possible but have just discovered that we can get away at the end of July. We don't normally do typical package holidays so have no idea about suitable resorts.

We're looking for somewhere in southern Europe, plenty to do for DS 9 & 11 (v.v active), not too busy and no high rise areas. We're happy to pay a little extra for something nice but equally don't want to end up spending £4k and then find it's awful.

Thanks everyone!

Holiday Village Tenerife might fit the bill.

Playa de la Arena is quite a quiet town. www.just-tenerife.com/resorts/playa-de-la-arena.htm

Hi OP I think anywhere end of July is going to be busy as school hols !! But the holiday villages are good as the PP has stated. They are scattered around Europe. Have a look at First choice website. Also jet2 sometimes have really good offers . Hope you find something suitable.

Second the Jet2holidays recommendation and look at Lanzarote (Playa Blanca or old town/marina area of Puerto del Carmen and area near Playa Chica - look out for Hotel Fariones or Apts Fariones and from there westwards. East of there is the new bit and it's not as nice.

Or put your requirements in here and see what comes up.

It can also be helpful to stop thinking that a package holiday is always a big AI hotel full of drunk Brits lazing around the pool of a high rise hotel before racing to the buffet to stuff themselves with chips, because it doesn't have to be like htat and is just a way of booking accomdation, flight and transfer all in one go and can look exactly the same as something you would put together yourself individually. Packages can often be cheaper too.

Lanzarote is great for families - we loved it. We have friends who said the watersports and stuff to do for kids is good in Fuerteventura too (both these islands are much less built up than Tenerife or Gran Canaria and if you're looking for more unspoilt destinations then they'd fit the bill).

Eurocamp in Spain or Italy? Doesn't have to be a tent, they do mobiles too. Look for parks with free activities.( We love La Garangeoire in the Vendee and there is tons of stuff to keep kids busy there, but it's probably not southern enough for you)
