Printing a boarding pass

Going off to Austria tomorrow. I have printed out the boarding passes, but they are not releasing the passes for the return journey until we are halfway through the week, staying in a fairly remote self-catering place. Can I print them out easily at the airport just before checking in? I don't think we will be stumbling over lots of internet cafés where we are.

Depending on who you're flying with, you may be able to download the airline's app onto your smartphone then download e-boarding passes (I've done this with easyJet and found it very straightforward).

Is there an app for the airline you are using?

If so, you can download the boarding pass and show it on your phone at the gate.

Otherwise, I don't think there are facilities to print things at airports, and you may be charged if you have not checked in prior to boarding.

Fermat,

Snap!

It will depend on the airline. Some airlines will have self service machines that will print your boarding pass at some airports, some will allow mobile boarding passes. Most will have check in desks, and can print your boarding pass, but some airlines (ie Ryanair) will charge extra for this.

I’d check with your airline before you go

I am flying with Eurowings to Salzburg. There is definitely an app you can download, but they also say you should print out your pass before checking in. It's very confusing, I think I will be contacting them.

Check facilities at the airport you’re flying back from, and see whether there’s an internet cafe / printing facilities listed on their website. Or an internet cafe in the nearest town to your destination - presumably you’ll head there for provisions or something during your trip anyway?

You can't print your boarding pass before checking in, because the act of checking in generates the boarding pass Confused.

When they say checking in, they might mean arriving at the airport, rather than checking in for the flight, which is often online these days.

They may also mean 'generate/download' when they say print. 'Most' airports now read electronic boarding passes these days anyway.

Within Europe at least, I would expect to be able to use a boarding card on my phone unless it's a very small airport, or possibly in a poorer country, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to find them almost anywhere these days. I would expect Saltzburg to definitely have the facility. Many airports also have machines where you put your passport in and it prints your boarding passes.

If you have a smartphone, you can check in online while you are away, as long as you have a data signal. I would check in online and email the boarding passes to everyone in the party with a smartphone, to mitigate against lost/stolen/broken phones and flat batteries.
