Would like advice on where to visit with kids for a day out. Have heard great things about Dublin Zoo and have read about fort Lucan.

Also went to Tayto Park about 3-4 years ago but wasn't overly impressed but have heard there's more there now.

The National Wax Museum Plus sounds dull but it's brilliant for kids. It's really hands on and there's lots to do. www.waxmuseumplus.ie. The Chocolate Warehouse is another hands on activity www.chocolatewarehouse.ie
Imaginosity is a bit of everything. Lots to entertain the kids and they don't realise that they're learning! www.imaginosity.ie
Airfield Estate is a nice place to escape the city and let off steam. There are woodland trails, gardens to explore, animals on the working farm to pet and feed and an adventure playground with zipwire, climbing nets etc... www.airfield.ie
Sea Safari is fun and informative. Please note with under 8s (but over 5) you will need a white executive Redbay RIB, so check ahead for scheduling. www.seasafari.ie

You could get the DART out to Howth or Bray? We did the Aquarium in Bray and my kids really enjoyed it.

Dublinia , an interactive exploration of Viking Dublin. Dublin Splash tours , bus tour on an amphibious bus so goes onto the canal. Dublin zoo is great, really worth a day, Pheonix Park where it’s situated, hire some bikes and look for the deer wandering freely. Guiness factory , great views and kids enjoy the exhibits. Get a bus out to Howth summit and walk it, kids love it with promise of ice cream/fish and chips when you get down to Howth village. Watch the buskers on Grafton st. Take a train to Belfast for the day and visit the Titanic exhibition, excellent for kids and adults. Also visit W5 interactive kids museum and the Ulster folk and transport museum on the outskirts of the city.

The aquarium in Bray isn't all that big so I'd steer away from that.

You could go horse riding (Phoenix park, I think Sandymount strand too). The Leprechaun museum is fun too. There is a dinosaur exhibition on in the Ambassador at the moment afaik so you could check that out, assuming you'd be going around now. You can also do lots of activities like paddle boarding, windsurfing, sailing etc.

Take the open top bus tour around the city. It’s a hop on and hop off ticket so can get you around interesting places at your own pace.

Malahide castle is nice - take a dart train to malahide and it’s walkable from the station. Some nice pubs in the village for lunch and it’s right at the sea if you want to take a walk.

A little further out across the estuary from malahide is newbridge house and farm in donabate village - nice old mansion, great playground and an interactive farm. Little coffee shop too.

I know the aquarium isn’t that big but we spent a good 90-120 mins there. Kids lives it. Plus there was the Dart there and back, which they really liked. A good trip.
I actually live in Belfast but I think a day trip (2 hrs 20 mins each way) is a bit much, plus Titanic museum not that brilliant for kids, although agree folk museum is brilliant.

Thanks for all the great ideas, will look into them. Like the sound of Viking splash tour.
