we stayed there we loved it.For us we did not enjoy the food in the Hotel we stayed in Dreams but that is us we are odd my hubby found the portions in the restraunts very small. We really like the village nice food and a few nice place to have a drink we would walk in to the village and get a taxi back at night.we did a few tours that we booked with the hotel and they were very good one was to santo domigo and I cant remember it is over 9 years since we were there. If you have no children we upgraded to the preffered room which were nicer and quiter

Kate123cl · 14/05/2018 14:28

@ladyirish thanks very much for your reply! I hope the portions aren't too small lol. We're looking into going to Sona Island for the day!

We went to a resort in Punta Cana for our honeymoon. It was fab. Totally recommend Sona Island and also Coco Bongo, it's a club night that put on a variety of shows throughout the night. Pay for the VIP experience It's worth it for a guaranteed seat and table service.

madeyemoodysmum · 14/05/2018 14:58

I went a very long time ago the hotel was fine I can't remember any problems with the food.

We did go on an organised trip however which the food I ate on gave me terrible diarrhoea for the next four days until we flew home I was so ill when I got back I walked into my doctor surgery she took one look at me and gave me anti Biotics. I'm convinced it was the trip though so if I were you if you go on any trips don't eat anything and take a packed lunch from the hotel
Any Caribbean country be careful outside the resort if you do go out to be honest it was not so much crime it was more being pestered by people trying to sell timeshares. Or other counterfeit goods this even happened on the beach that belong to the hotel so we tended to stay by the pool

And said that it was a lovely holiday and I would go back again and also it was over 15 years ago if not 20 so things might of improved

Kate123cl · 14/05/2018 15:38

@MrsL2016 amazing! We did look into Coco Bongo but it's very expensive at the moment!

@madeyemoodysmum Thanks for your reply. That's interesting about eating away from the resort, will definitely bear that in mind! Thanks for all the advice. Smile

Conco Bongo don't really bring down there price we have done it in Mexico and it is worth the price but would have to go for the VIP package

Pfftlife · 14/05/2018 16:20

Oh glad I found this, were going to Punta Cana at the beginning of July. Family holiday though so no nightclubs for us

Kate123cl · 14/05/2018 16:21

@ladyirish I may have to look into it, it does look fabulous!

We stayed at dreams la romana. It was about 5 years ago but we had a lovely lovely time. The food I'm the hotel was ok, it wasn't amazing but was fine. The trip to the island was perfection - the boat trip out there and then just the day we had there. We still talk about it now.

Enjoy!!

MrsL2016 · 14/05/2018 16:34

We only left the resort a hand full of times and only ate outside food on Sona Island which was delicious. My advice would be to be more careful with drinks with ice cubes in, off the resort they are very unlikely to be made from bottled water. I made that mistake at Coco Bongo and had a tummy bug for a day or 2 after.

Kate123cl · 14/05/2018 16:38

@blossomandbailey Wow! I am looking forward to Sona Island! We're staying at the Grand Bahia reaper Smile

Kate123cl · 14/05/2018 16:38

@MrsL2016 Ah ok! Thanks for the advice about ice cubes, I would never have even thought about it! We probably won't leave the complex much either!

DR was fab, tho I probably wouldn't book to go again. We stayed in Punta Cana - got food poisoning the first day and the swimming pool was filthy. Its a beautiful place tho, and everyone is really friendly. As a pp said, I wouldn't really leave the resort at night, unless on a booked excursion. If you tip well, the staff will really look after you

CPtart · 14/05/2018 16:49

DH had the worst diarrhoea and vomiting bug ever in the Dominican Republic. This was supposedly a decent hotel too, but many years ago. Maybe standards have improved.

MrsL2016 · 14/05/2018 17:42

We stayed at a Grand Bahia in Punta Cana and it was a really great hotel. I agree with pp about tipping well at the beginning and you will get great service throughout. Although we found they couldn't do enough for us regardless, we didn't lift a finger.

Kate123cl · 14/05/2018 18:35

@MrsL2016 Oh amazing, will definitely tip haha! X

I go to the DR in SEVEN DAYS!!!!

We are so excited, we're staying at Dreams La Romana and it has generally good trip advisor reviews (currently 4.5) which is bloody amazing for TA and what we're used to staying in

We're doing this tour which is Catalina Island rather than Soana but thought [[https://www.seavisbayahibe.com/Saona_e.htm this] looked great too

Have a fabulous time

This thread is great as we re going in June and staying at sensatori. The exertions look great but anyone know if they would be suitable for a 3 and 5 yo?

Sureitwillbegrand · 29/05/2018 21:21

Could I ask a question? We are going to DR in July Grin and wondering if you have gotten any vaccines or malaria tablets? I assumed we would need malaria but gov website says it is not needed.

Sidge · 29/05/2018 21:29

You used to need antilalarials for DR but not any more, but make sure you avoid being bitten as there is Zika risk as well as dengue.

Check you are in date for diphtheria, tetanus and polio, and I’d recommend Hepatitis A and potentially typhoid if you want extra protection.

Sureitwillbegrand · 29/05/2018 21:32

Thank you, I have read so much and getting my head in a spin about it!

Kate123cl · 29/05/2018 21:35

@Sureitwillbegrand I was advised to have Typhoid and a tetanus booster but I THINK hepatitis depends on which area, my boyfriend was offered it but I wasn't Smile

Ring and ask your doctor. I was advised to have rubella and typhoid, checked if had MMR and tetanus. Kids are having rubella, typhoid, hep A and B
