â‚©planning a long weekend with DH end September. Similar flight prices, i know Copenhagen will be expensive.
All three appeal to me ... but I have not been to any of these cities, we like walking, sightseeing, food and drink. Just looking for a relaxing 3/4 night break. I am undecided as to which location to choose. Please help??!

I've only been to Copenhagen out of the three and liked it a lot – glorious sunshine, people sitting outside cafes etc – but I was there in summer, which I think is quite short. There was a certain sense of people getting out in the sun while they could!

I've no idea about the weather in Budapest but surely Madrid will be warmer and sunnier in September than Copenhagen.

Of course it's not all about weather, and Copenhagen is great for contemporary art and design museums, if that's your bag for indoor activities. I also quite like beaches in slightly colder bleaker weather, and the city beach there is nice and very accessible from the city centre by train.

Budapest is lovely in September. Still warm and sunny. Lots of lovely cafes and restaurants. Thermal baths. Walks along the Danube. Get th Funicular up into the Castle district.

Thanks both for the responses.

Tom
I like the idea of city beach and im not desperate for hot weather, just don't want it too cold.

I think i have narrowed it down to Budapest or Copenhagen...
For slightly warmer Budapest mught be the one.

Might need to flip a coin!

Thanks again

If you pick Budapest this time, definitely try to get in a trip to Copenhagen another time! And Aarhus is nice too, if small, and has more of a beachy beach, plus 'forest' (more of a small wood TBH, but it's nice); again, I was there in summer and it was gorgeous.

Can I vote for Madrid? We went in March a couple of year ago, weather was sunny & pleasant. Loads to see and quite reasonably priced. Good public transport system.

Madrid willl still be very warm so you get the best of long warm days. I do have a soft spot for Copenhagen though, but the weather will be similar to the U.K.

Thierryhenryneedisaymore · 08/05/2018 13:45

Thanks everyone. I am going to let DH pick!

Budapest is fabulous

Opera house is cheap (get a box)
Good food, wine
Lots of history (museums, buildings tours)
Beautiful thermal baths
River Danube at night is gorgeous

It’s also very affordable. I recommend staying on or near Andrassy Ut (in Pest).

I've been to all three and as a couple I'd say you can't go wrong whichever one you choose as they're all nice, all interesting and all have what you want! Denmark will probably be the coldest, but if you love museums then the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek and the Louisiana Museum (which is a bit out of CPH - you have to take a train), are both amazing. As for Madrid, well it has the Prado, say no more. Budapest has a slight exoticism and difference and yes, the Danube is lovely. The food isn't as good though as Madrid, from what I can remember, but I haven't been there in more than 10 years, so it may have improved.

Can't say for Madrid as I've never been - weather wise I wouldn't know September as I've been to both Budapest and Copenhagen in May. Based on the City I would say Budapest, although the people in Copenhagen are nicer

Budapest is wonderful. Truly beautiful. I've been a few times and I'd happily go again.
