Hi.
We are thinking of driving, from Plymouth to tuscany. Can anybody advise on decent route please or good stop overs. Also has anyone got any idea on toll prices en route. Thanks xx

The Eurotunnel is by far the easiest and quickest crossing for a car. Once you’re on, it takes approx 35 mins from Folkestone to Calais and you can relax (or snooze) in your car throughout the journey. If you book in advance, it’s a pretty cheap option too as you just pay for your car, not the people in it!
On the first day we take the midday shuttle crossing and travel to the Novotel at Dijon Sud, arriving about 7.30pm, a long enough day for us. The hotel is fine for an overnight with surprisingly good food and close proximity to the autoroute, don't be put off by the industrial estate surroundings! Next day we abandon the autoroute at the Poligny exit and head for Poligny/St Cergue as we enjoy the drive through the scenic Jura mountains. From St Cergue we drive through Geneva alongside the lake and head for the Mont Blanc tunnel. In the past we have stayed overnight in Chamonix but for the last five years we have headed through the tunnel and stayed at a fabulous hotel in Cormayeur callled Bouton d'Or arriving about 4pm. Next day through the Aosta valley past Genoa and then the autoroute down to Lucca. On the return journey we stay a night in Annecy after returning to Courmayeur and then a night near Chalons
It’s approx €150 of toll charges from Calais to Tuscany. It's possible to reduce that amount by taking a less direct route, but what you save in toll charges you end up spending on the extra petrol!

I'd go from Plymouth to Roscoff, driving in France is so much easier and quieter than UK (rather than flogging from Plymouth to Dover).
