Spain with a newborn or pregnant

Hello :)

My partner and I are currently TTC. We would really like to go on holiday around Easter next year however we could potentially have a 1 month old or I could be heavily pregnant. Is it worth even booking or should we wait? We have been TTC for a year now and have held off on holidays for this reason but honestly I need the sun! We are thinking Spain, around Alicante, end of April. Thanks!

Some airline won’t let you travel past a certain date (usually 36 weeks but you’ll need a doctors letter after 28)
It’s also fine to travel with a newborn, although some people prefer they have their jags first.
The biggest problem I can see is getting a passport for the baby - you’ll have to register the birth and have the birth certificate and photos to apply for the passport which could take some weeks.

Posted too soon.

It could take many, many months to fall pregnant. I’d book the holiday, and cross that bridge if and when you come to it.

Generally you can’t fly later in pregnancy depending on airlines, and realistically last thing when pregnant you want to do will be baking in the heat. Plus why risk potential of giving birth not at home. Newborns also not easy in very hot weather as difficult to regulate their temperature when in a different climate. Children do change your holidays especially in the early years - that’s just the way it is

Yeah, those are the reasons why we haven't went on holiday yet. I wouldn't want to be thinking about passports when I'm getting used to breastfeeding or if I've had a c section.

Due to some issues there's a potential for me to be a high risk pregnancy too which is another reason I've held off, I don't want to be in another country if something goes wrong. But at the same time, we don't know how long it could take for me to finally conceive. And I could really do with a holiday.

Aye Jammie we're thinking of doing that and then cancelling if need be. Just sounds like a massive faff! Heart is telling me go and have a nice time for once and my head is telling me to be sensible lol.

Just take out good travel insurance and make sure it’s within your cancellation policy. You may lose a slight deposit but with a medical note you should be ok.

I drove back from Spain 20 days before dd was born!!
Had a lovely brown bump after 3 wks of sun!

Awww @April that sounds lovely. What month did you go in? I really don't want to book for next summer because I feel like that would be way too hot if I was pregnant or had a wee one but google says that April-May is about 20 degrees which is doable I think

Re passports, if you can book an appointment to apply at the passport office it can be really quick. My ds was born on the 12th of the month, passport was issued on the 20th and received on the 21st.
