Anyone successfully used a Flytots (or other similar device) with Emirates?

We're flying long haul with Emirates next month with a 1 and 3 year old. I'd been planning to buy a Flytots device for each of them to let them sleep especially as it's night flights we're taking both ways. Emirates has, however, banned the use of these. My travel agent has said it's cabin crew discretion however. I understand the safety escape concerns but if my kids are in the middle 2 seats in the middle row of 4 then arguably that's not impeding on anyone.
I'd be gutted if I didn't buy them and found other kids using them (and sleeping!) on the flight. Just wondering if anyone has used them where technically they're banned?

Don't bother buying such things because they cannot be used.

From Emirates website (and I would take this as gospel compared to what your travel agent has stated):-

"Please note that many children’s ride on suitcases or leg rest devices aren’t certified by the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority, and therefore aren’t permitted on board our flights. This includes – but isn’t limited to – devices by Bedbox, Fly Legs-up and FLY-Tot. You can get in touch with us for more information."

Yes I'm aware of the Ts and Cs, I'm just wondering if anyone has experience the 'cabin crew discretion' my agent mentioned. I have 4 long flights in total with different crews presumably on each one.

We frequently fly Emirates. I've never seen anyone use them.
You can, however, trap a blanket in the table in front, and then sit/lie on the other end. As soon as you get up, it breaks, overcoming the blocking argument.

cabin crew shouldn’t offer discretion on something that isn’t approved for use / restricted on the aircraft.

Despite the quote above, if you want to check - do so explicitly with the airline & carry a copy of their response. Even then, it’s the aircraft commander who has final say, and could overrule, especially if the statement quoted remains correct that the Authority hasn’t approved their use.

Cabin crews have no discretion whatever over safety regulations.

ILikeMyChickenFried · 02/05/2018 13:45

I don't imagine cabin crew's discretion can override the law.

From experience though, children that little can curl.up quite comfortably in their seat so they should still get some sleep

If your kids are in the middle two seats of the middle row ant there's a fire/ obstruction/ need to evacuate from one aisle only then they will cause an obstruction and a trip hazard. Xx
