Insurance for kids on PGL holiday?

DCs age 10 are off on a 2 night PGL break and PGL say they would charge £20 per kid for insurance.

Just wondering if insurance is actually required as if they were injured they’d get NHS treatment (or use our private medical insurance) and they’re not taking any valuables with them.

What have other parents done about insurance for PGL?

Thanks x

I don't know for sure, but I would assume it's about more than just medical costs or lost valuables. Perhaps public liability? Or cover for dangerous sports?

You either have to take their insurance or prove that you have your own and that it meets their criteria. the kids will be doing things without you there and also undertaking some exciting challenges where things go wrong and this is as much to cover PGL as to cover you. with the cost of the holiday we have always just paid it as part of what you need to pay to go on one of these. My kids loved them for years and years and only stop going once over 17.

DC broke his wrist the week before going on a PGL holiday and their insurance company refunded the holiday cost very efficiently and promptly. They would have refunded DC2's holiday cost too had he not chosen to go alone (that turned out to be a mistake, everyone goes with a friend or sibling, but that's a different issue)
