How many euros to take when all Inclusive

Damonlufc88 · 01/05/2018 08:53

Never done all Inclusive before, going on our first abroad holiday as a family, 2 adults and 5+3 year old to Majorca.

Don't want to leave ourselves short but only really want to take euros with us.

Ooh we love Majorca - where are you going?

Inside the hotel, we needed money for tips at the end (obviously optional), popcorn machines (yes, I know) and pool tables. A few kids' activities (e.g. T-shirt painting) might cost extra.

Your hotel might charge a deposit for beach towels and table tennis bats if you want to use their table. They might charge for use of the safe (which always baffles me) and there is also tourist tax.

Outside the hotel we spent Euros on bus fares/ taxis, the occasional drink, and holiday essentials (a lilo and a beach ball!) Sunloungers have to be paid for if you plan to be on the beach rather than the pool.
Keep some Euros back for drinks etc at the airport.

We paid for things like tourist tax and the safe on a card.

We usually take about 300 Euros in cash and always have some left over.

We did an AI in Majorca 2 years ago and we spent €1500 extra.
It was a 3* place and there were loads of things that weren't included and we had a few days out and hired a car a couple of times.
In the place we stayed, technically we could have spent very little but it would have involved saying no to the kids constantly as nearly all the activities at the hotel cost extra. Swimming and kids club were the only free things.

We are 2 adults and 2 teen kids. We have done AI the last few years but only like to eat in the hotel about half of the time as we like to get out and explore - we also do about 3 excursions / water park type days out over a 11-14 night holiday. We always budget 100 Euros per day - some days we spend nothing, others we spend much more so it evens out.

Eminybob · 01/05/2018 11:25

When we have been AI we have spent no more than €50 in a week.
Bottled water for the room, a couple of ice creams and drinks about and about, and maybe a bucket and spade or whatever but we do the majority of our eating and drinking in the hotel.

PersianCatLady · 01/05/2018 11:26

Could you take a credit or debit card for emergencies??

Eminybob · 01/05/2018 11:26

Wow looking at the other replies I feel we may be a bit tight! Blush

DougFargo · 01/05/2018 12:01

You can just use your debit card in places and in atms there, its much easier than taking cash.

If you are all inclusive surely you still do trips, eat somewhere else, go out?

reluctantbrit · 01/05/2018 12:59

It depends how you want to spend your holiday.

AI or not, we never spend every day in the hotel and often eat out as well. AI is more for the convenience and the knowledge that DD can eat/drink her heart out for the holiday.

It also depends what is included in your stay, as others say, you may have small costs for activities etc.

We normally take whatever cash we have at home (DH and I do travel for business and have family in Germany) and then use debit/credit cards to pay or withdraw money.

Bexter801 · 01/05/2018 13:04

How long you going for? Agree a debit card is definitely handy for emergencies, though they charge everytime used abroad

BarbaraofSevillle · 02/05/2018 09:44

Don't forget you have to pay the tourist tax when you check into the hotel. Could be around 30-50 euros - we paid about 10-15 euros for a couple for 3 nights, and 30 for a week in a self catering apartment.

We always use our credit cards to withdraw money abroad. Get the right card and it's by far the cheapest way to do it. Just pay it off as soon as you return home. If we have any euros left at the end of the holiday, we just put them in the drawer where the passports live or in the suitcase and use them next time.

Find out how much your cards charge here

Sometimes there's a fee per usage, so it's better to get, say 200 euros out in one go, rather than 4 lots of 50 euros.

Sorry for the late reply. We're going Alcudia. Ive been there a few times before and wanted somewhere I am kind of familiar with and what to expect etc. I'm thinking maybe £500 worth of euros just to make sure we're not short for anything. Would like to maybe get a pedalo or an excursion somewhere. Our eldest son got diagnosed for autism recently, he's 5 so we're kind of going to go with the flow and see... Not really looking forward to the flight as to how the boys will react but we do keep reiterating that we're going on an aeroplane and they seem keen on the idea up to press.

Tourist tax has gone up a lot this year (think it may have doubled) so make sure you have cash for that. I would say €3-400 would be plenty

Fintress · 05/05/2018 06:43
