Can I take teabags to Rome?

The hotel where I am staying does not have kettles in rooms, so I bought a travel kettle.
Was planning to take my usual brands of green and herbal teabags.
Then DH said that he thought I would not be able to take teabags on the Ryanair flight ( in suitcase), or through customs at Rome.
Anyone know?
Sorry if it's a daft question!

No problems with teabags. I am always taking teabags home to Italy.

DelphiniumBlue · 27/04/2018 18:51

Never had a problem doing this.

Aridane · 27/04/2018 18:52

Why would you have problems?

lostinjapan · 27/04/2018 18:55

Yes, of course you can! I always take teabags on holiday with me.

Thanks, everyone.
I think DH had the wrong idea about foodstuffs going through customs (more used to travel to US).

I know how you feel. It’s alwaus after I’ve tesiously sorted out all my medications (blister sheets back in correct boxes, prescription sheet obtained) that I start the random customs panic.

He's been watching that programme where people try to bring suitcases full of frozen prawns and raw pork into Australia. Bringing teabags to the continent is almost obligatory!

Bowlofbabelfish · 27/04/2018 19:04

It’s fine.
It’s fine to the USA too. I declared mine on honeymoon and was told I didn’t have to (by a very polite border guard who probably had to file extra paperwork..)

God I love that program. There’s always some elderly lady with fifteen dried iguanas in her bag insisting angrily that this is totally normal.

I now have visions of an incredibly sharply dressed Italian customs agent confiscating your contraband PG Tips, and forcing you to drink an espresso on the spot 😂

Nope, you'll be fine op. Have a lovely trip!

I'd be more concerned about the kettle. You do know the plugs are different, right?

I take teabags to Spain because I don't want to pay 4 euro for a small box of tea over there, which will either be horrible or impossible to find a decent British brand. I do like to put away my own bodyweight in cava and Spanish food while I am there but I do like a cup of tea or two while I'm there and have never had a problem.

Kettles are fine too. I don't take a travel kettle, but there's a picture of one going through security on the signs telling you what you need to remove from your hand luggage for extra screening, so it will be be totally fine.

Your DH has odd ideas about inbound customs, which have obviously been caused by bonkers US immigration processes.
