August holiday ideas?

So really struggling this yr yo book a holiday . Mainly because Dh has his heart fixed on something we can’t afford/doesn’t exist! And really he doesn’t want to go on he just likes the idea .

So I’ve looked at Spain and Italy city breaks and decided too hot and busy .
Have rejected Egypt Tunisia turkey and Greece.
Don’t want a road trip or to go camping .
Looked and canaries and Balearic Islands and decided we really don’t do beach only holidays although we love the thought .
Have sat in Thomas cook and been through everything they can offer in August below £8k! Which wasn’t much .

We are a family of 5 so need 2 interconnecting rooms or a villa.
We like doing things but not particularly water sports and kids clubs

Barcelona sounds ideal with city and beach but accomadation is not popping up !

So any different ideas was thinking about looking at places like Holland or sweeden or Germany or Austria or any ideas you might have as its driving me mad . I think we are over thinking this .

PS Also agree with previous recommendation upthread re Netherlands. You can go across on Eurotunnel/ferry and self-drive. The Dutch schools go back mid-August so if you’re thinking of going the second half of August it’s cheaper and quieter.

Northern Spain but the other coast - ie Atlantic?

We went to San Sebastián in the Basque Country last year & loved it so much we are going again this year. Great beach for kids and fab food. Nearest airport is actually Biarritz in France and Ryan air does cheap flights there.

We've also been to Galicia (other end of same coastline, above Portugal). Cheapest flights are into Santiago del compostella which is inland but utterly beautiful so you'd probably want to visit it but maybe stay on the coast. The beaches are beautiful - white sand, clear sea.

The regions between are nice too - Asturias and Cantabria.

When I was a kid, so years ago, we went to a Hoseasons park in Germany one year. It was great. It was like a log cabin thing in a forest. We hired bikes, swam in lakes and visited cities.

We went in August and the weather was lovely.
