A good friend is contemplating moving there but will visit first. Which area should she look at? Also are there areas to avoid?

avoid most of the northside

and mahon, my bus was shot at there and bf at the time said it happened alot

lovely city for the most part though, i miss it

douglas, carragaline and rochestown areas are lovely, i take it she wants to be close to the city? otherwise the seaside towns like kinsale and clonakilty are sweet.

It took us over an hour to get through it the first time we visited! And it wasn't even rush hour

OTOH the people were lovely & friendly

It is a lovely city, very pretty, lots of great shops and restaurants. My dsis lived there for a few years but she found it a little difficult to make friends.

PinkTulips · 13/05/2007 23:22

tis very closed at first to outsiders, took me a fair few years to settle but once i got used to the people and learned to understand what the hell they were saying i loved it.

still have friends there and would love to go back

fireflyfairy2 · 13/05/2007 23:27

We just stayed in B&B's & the family were friendly. I guess if we lived there it might be a bit different

PinkTulips · 13/05/2007 23:30

i think it's more what you make of it... your quite outgoing and once i learned to be a bit louder and braver i had loads of friends but in school when i was quite shy i had very few and my mother who isn't good at social stuff never had any friends there.

i think corkonians very much work on the basis that if you'll make the effort so will they but they won't make the first move iykwim

I read that it's one of the best places for whale watching!

PinkTulips · 14/05/2007 08:54

yeah, the buggers come right up into the river!

there was one april fools day where there was a report on the radio that there was a shark in the lee.... nobody believed it as we all thought it was an april fools day gag until the next day when they were still reporting it!

Thanks for the info. I didn't realise but my friend was there this weekend and didn't like it as compared to where they live now so they turned the job down!
The area looks beautifull with the coast and county side though.
