New York Hotel Recommendations over the 4th July

Can anyone recommend some reasonably priced hotels/ apart-hotels for a four night stay in New York?

It's for my Dad who is in his 70's and can't walk massively long distances due to a knee problem, so needs to be close to transport links!

Whilst he's there it's the 4th July (he didn't realise when he booked it 🙈) but is now very excited about being there and wants to be close to the action.

I feel like I'm looking for a needle in a haystack as have never been to New York.

Thanks Smile

I’m going next month and staying in The Library Hotel. It looks amazing, and the reviews are fabulous. Got a good price through booking.com.
Very excited now!

We stayed in The Roger Smith hotel. It was the perfect distance from everything and had apples, yoghurts and granola for free to take what you wanted. Would definitely go back there. Walking distance to Times Square, grand central station, Bloomingdales and Central Park without being amongst all the craziness.

We stayed in the Omni Berkshire Place - was fabulous and great location, no idea of cost though as DH booked it for a special birthday I had a couple of years ago.

So many nice hotels in NY, it’s very difficult to recommend without knowing your budget but get on booking.com and it’s super easy to compare and the reviews are verified too. I’d aim for a mid town location so it’s as easy as it can be to get around. And if you can find one with a rooftop bar then even better for watching the 4th July fireworks! It’s also worth noting that the NY subway isn’t great as a tourist as it only runs uptown to downtown, not across town and has very few interchanges compared to the London tube. It usually requires steps too so don’t know if that might be a problem for your Dad. I’d recommend you use Uber (download the app before you travel, you can use a British credit card) which is brilliant in NY and so much cheaper than yellow cabs.

Hope you have a great trip!!

Roger smith has a rooftop bar. Bit confused re comment on subway. Lots of NY is walking distance but we did use the subway for Brooklyn bridge, 911 memorial and Statue of Liberty (boat to the island) with our 3dc (aged 9,5 and 5) and found it good/easy.

Can he do a flight of stairs a few times a day? The Harlem Flophouse is beautiful and near 125th St which is a major interchange, but there's at least 1 flight at both. Would recommend area between 125th and Columbia as pleasant and more peaceful than downtown.
