I would really love a cheeky week away in May half term with DH and two older DC on a budget. Any top tips? I don’t mind putting something together for us i.e flight, private let or a cheap package or even camping want a safe ish destination. Need to fly from Scotland for a north west north east airport. Any ideas?

Anyone I think it will be determined by where is cheap to fly to but everywhere seems extortionate even more expensive than mid August.
I even looked at Eurocamp but unsure of weather, whether an older children there and struggling with where to fly to and where from as the airports in the brochure seem to be lesser known ones. Anyone?

We are going to Spain - The Spanish Algarve as it’s know, which is just over the border from the Portuguese Algarve
It’s our own place and will be lovely and warm in May. We fly to Faro ( usually from Liverpool with EasyJet) and hire a car. It’s a very easy 40 minute drive
Much quieter and cheaper than Portugal, people come over the border to buy petrol and do their food shop!!

Have a look and if you fancy it I can give you details of local rental agencies etc.
Largest town is Ayamonte and beach area is Isla Canela

What sort of budget are you looking at?

Hellsbellscockleshells · 10/04/2018 17:12

Very little as finances are tight I just really need a break and can’t wait until
August. I really wanted to get flights and accommodation for about £1200 or £1500 with breakfast.

I'd say Airbnb are your best bet. We've found cheap flights to Portugal, staying in Lisbon and Porto. Accommodation in Verona and The Hague weren't expensive either.

Have a look on Skyscanner but don't look for Sat-Sat, try a short break.

Thanks will try SkySkanner I’m easy where we go just want a destination that feels safe and either other older kids for DC or just chilling as a family. I tried all our local airports for flights to Malta, Fuertaventura and all destinations in Croatia and I was shocked at the flight prices will try flights to the destinations you have suggested. Thanks

I could maybe fly on Thursday, Sunday or maybe even 5 or 6 nights from the Monday.

How old are the children? If you don't want to post feel free to PM me, only guessing ages and your half term dates makes Cyprus doable in that budget.

You'll be lucky at this late stage, but see if there is anything left on jet2holidays packages?

Problem with booking separately is that the flights could take all your budget, but you could see what comes up on skyscanner.

Or look on Travel Republic. You will have to choose a destination, but you can put all the airports you could fly from and tick the flexibility box and then play with the options to see if anything comes up - you might find something if you go for 6 or 8 days rather than exactly a week, or you take those horrible flights that take off at 5 am or return at 1 am.

Thanks DC 13 and 14.

Jet2holidays from Edinburgh on Sunday 27th 7 nights 2 adults 2 children to Paphos, transfers included, few b&b under £1500 and other board options if you tinker with it. I say there as I know it well and recommend it but there will be more options on there.

We have found amazing last minute Eurocamp for May 1/2 term before now...weather can be hit and miss but last year in dordogne we were in the pool all day every day...

Did you drive or fly and if you flew where did you fly from and to, did you manage without a car from how old were your DC please and we’re their many older children I.e. 13/14 year olds around please?
