Single parent with 2dc. First holiday on plane. Jersey?

I want to book us a holiday. My youngest (5) has never been on a plane. My eldest (8) only once.

It's just me and the 2dc. I'm a very anxious flyer but feel I need to get over this. I've flown many many times before and all over the world. But never on my own with the DC. I think it's the responsibility of dealing with it all on my own. Being totally responsible if an emergency was to happen. Totally ridiculous, but it's there at the back of my mind.

So, I'm thinking jersey. It was my first flight as a kid. We had a lovely time and I think I was about dd1's age.

Looking at the Merton possibly?

Anyone been? Any recommendations? Am I mad?

Oh, and do I need to sort out passports? None of them are in date and dd2 has never had one.

Tia.

My first holiday alone with DS who was then 7 was to Guernsey. I chose it because being just the 2 of us was worried if one of us was ill etc how I would manage in say Spain or Greece so exactly the same concerns as you so not at all ridiculous. Also it was the first time he'd flown, although I'm fine with flying.
I can't remember which hotel we stayed in ( he is now 24yrs) but we stayed near St Peters Port, did a trip to Herm and Sark and in general had a lovely time.
From memory yes we did need passports.
I think Jersey or Guernsey would be a good choice - enjoy whatever you decide.

No, you're not mad and I can understand the whole '100% responsible' anxiety. The Merton is a great family hotel with the aqua dome and right across from a lovely little park and a short walk to a beach. If you're flying from the UK then no, you don't need passports but you might need some form of ID for the flight? The airline you choose can tell you.

If your dc like dinosaurs, Tamba Park is great - you'll see what I mean when you get in the arrivals hall!, for animals - Durrell Zoo, plus a fair few museums, castles, lots of beaches, walks, good restaurants, cafes....

jersey.com will tell you lots - take a leap and enjoy!

Thanks both. My finger is over the button to book!
Is it worth me booking to include the battle of the flowers?

And usually, what's the weather like early August?

I suppose it would be easier with passports. The dc are not really going to have adequate id!

Is it ok to travel round the island by bus? Or would that just annoyed me and a car would be better?

I'm actually going to do this!

Can't speak for Jersey but Guernsey was easy enough to travel around by bus.

I've booked it! What a lot of money Shock. But it's done now!

Thanks for the push Wine

Ooh you'll have a fab time! The buses go to all the touristy places, but the hire cars have a H on the number plate so its easy to see who's not local and give them more space! The bus station is on the other side of town so not far.

August is usually very nice and if you've booked for the Battle of Flowers the weather is always good for that! You can book seats or sit on the pavement to watch. On the Friday evening they do it all again late at night, called the Moonlight Parade and usually ending with fireworks.

Re passports - you might find you don't need any idea for your dc, just you. BUT you might all need passports for your next holiday away somewhere else!!
