Hi,
Just got our tickets and see the aircraft is a 777. We have been allocated 5 seats in the middle. On reading diff websites some say we have to pay for alcholic drinks and that they don`t have indivdual seat monitors!! Aah, this will go down well with 3x9yr olds for 11 hours!! Left a message with my travel agent but no response as yet! We are flying with United for the first time.

www.seatguru.com/airlines/United_Airlines/United_Airlines_Boeing_777-200_1.php

This is the aircraft you will be using methinks. It indeed does not have seatback entertainment.

The 777 we flew on did have seatback tvs and was much more spacious that a 747.

I think the drinks/tv package depends on your airline (we flew with United)

mosschops30 · 11/05/2007 14:35

duh just noticed youre flying United too

In keeping with most US airlines - United do charge for Alcoholic drinks. Soft drinks and water are free but alcohol is $4-5 per drink.

I take it back - having read further both these types of 777s United use do have seat back entertainment. Think on seatguru.com there are also film listings.

You do have to pay for alcoholic drinks, not soft drinks though.

Attila, looked at Seatguru already, it gives conflicting info compared to Uniteds own site, confusing!

It sounds pathetic to be upset about such things, but it will be hard to keep 3 occupied if not! How were they more spacious?

no didnt pay for food or drink (in fact the air hostesses got me ratted on brandy at the back of the plane whilst the rest of my family slept because I was so scared )

we went in 2001 to australia with United but the flight we had the 777 was the last leg from San Fran to heathrow

AttilaTheMeerkat · 11/05/2007 14:45

I know that one of their 777s (the ones that are used from Mainland USA to Hawaii) don't have seatback entertainment (have seen that with my own eyes!) but there are three 777 type aircraft listed on seatguru. The two lower ones are used for transatlantic routes.

TBH I've looked at the film listings on United for both May and June and there is hardly anything suitable for children to watch. I'd seriously look into purchasing a portable DVD player or something along those lines.

Hersetta · 11/05/2007 15:10

US airlines changed there policy on providing free alcolhol in the months following 9/11 - they all made massive losses in the period shortly afterwards so most did away with free alcohol on transatlantic routes.

Hi all,
Thanks everyone. We are not actually going untl the 26th July-22nd Aug, into San Fran and out of LA. We have got dvd players we thought of taking anyway for the long drives, one is a twin set and one indivdual, not sure how they will work in their cars. Might be worth investing in another single one, and with the dreaded Nintendos they should be happy!!
